Not directly. Never thought about it, really. That’s a thing I really dislike about Photoshop, but that’s just me.

You can easily create a red solid layer and use a shift channels to pull the alpha from any other layer.

The bigger question is, why do you think you need to do this? I’m just asking because it’s never come up before, not that I can recall.

Yar, but I will add that you must keep a critical eye on the video levels. Turn off the auto iris and autofocus. Shoot from far enough away so you can use a medium telephoto. check the shot every now and then to make sure the camera hasn’t drifted off to one side.Try to figure out the hottest whites and blackest blacks n all of your screens and set your camera to those. You want every shot to have about the the same range of values.
Be sure you know what the white balance for the screen is! It’s probably set for daylight and your camera is probably set for tungsten.

Give yourself plenty of shot handles and give yourself a microphone to do audio slates, talk to yourself a lot, keep a running patter. When you are editing, all screen shots look the same and the only thing that will make assembly easier is the audio slating.

Nope, you get in there and tweak it one frame at a time. You can draw the mask in many different places but it’s still a hand-rotoscoping operation. The benefit of rotoscoping by hand is that you can very carefully keep the beam visible under the arms or add edge effects like light wrap to enhance your effects.

If you shot on a green stage, you can use a copy of the mattes of your actors and selectively turn it on and off to mask the beams as they pass behind them.

It’s all quite tedious.

“Create” or “emulate”?
If you have Tinderbox, there might be a few filters to use but it would be REALLY hard to build a baby in utero within After Effects. If you had some footage, you can enhance it to appear to be a sonogram. However, there are many different types of sonograms these days, even some with false colors and stupid high resolution. All you need is the right research university hospital or a bleeding edge, independent, non-invasive imaging lab.

Can only suggest you review the instructions one more time. It’s confusing but it works superbly if you’ve done everything exactly. One thing many of us forget to do is create crop marks in our Illustrator documents first.

< This is the crucial question, massive misperception. You can't export or play to the projector. All you can do is make the projector into a monitor of the 'book. I only do free lance pro bono for organizations with which I have a deep emotional connection. I have simply found that, even in a small market like Boise ID, there is always someone available who will do better than terrible work for any organization for free if they seek it out. I don’t do any ro bono work for ANY organization that pays anyone anything to do their PR or fund raising. If they can pay someone to wrangle their image and money seeking, they can pay me to deliver quality goods, too.

My company, however, supports many organizations and offers resources where available. We often do photography and video work for them. But Idaho Power is the driving force, not me.
