[Ed Dooley] ” I’m not sure if it’s because
I have Flash 8 Pro installed or if it comes with FCP and/or QT Pro, but I can do it.
Putting the flv into a swf is another process entirely.
Ed “the advanced Adobe products have installed your FLV capabilities. Can’t be done without someone’s encoder besides Apple’s.

This is s-o-o-0 lame and we’ve been screaming about it since v1 and, no, it’s never going to get fixed. It was one of those “Are you freakin’ KIDDING?” things that many of use discovered all on our own because, you know, it’s not mentioned in any of Apple’s promotional materials for FCP. Are you new to FCP? There are many unpleasant surprises in store for you. Wait till you try to change the speed of clip in the timeline, open a subclip, open a nest, or your get stuck trying to out-guess Autoselect.
There is a FCP Feedback folder on apple.com’s discussion site. Register your disbelief there.

Does the term “muxed” come up anywhere in those documents? Try searching for MUXED, it is short for muliplexed, a way of embedding the audio into the file. Compressor does not do muxed files AFAIK.
You can post on the Compressor forum, too, and at apple.com’s discussion forums, although, frankly, the traffic on those sites is dismal. Please indicate you are crossposting the same question to other sites.

Subtitles or captions? H_UG_E difference.
If you are burning in subs, 75-90% transparent yellow sans serif characters, 24-40 pixels, with a 1.5 pixel black border that is the same level of transparency as the letters. Some clients require a gray 10-50% transparent box behind the characters. I think this is much worse than the characters alone but sometimes it’s necessary..
You want yellow because it will show up against almost anything, dark or bright.
You want transparency so the encoder has some ramping to use in calculating LUTs.
You want the edge/border to help pull the text out of the action.
You want to consult carefully with your client on the use of a box and whether or not you are timing accurately to the film. Six seconds a panel is about average for legibility and retention. We use 15 frames blank between sub panels because we feel it helps communicate the text has changed and just breaks up the monotony.bogiesan

[mattdawgpro] “It seems to me like this doesn’t change the interface much, it just means if you started moving a clip and snapping wasn’t on, but you want it on, you can just hold option and it will temporarily enable snapping. It’s faster than having to stop moving the clip, click N to enable snapping, then move the clip again. If you want snapping to stay off then simply don’t press option.”
Your application of this feature/improvement is different than mine but you’ve got one or two of the steps and their reactions/results incorrect. If you don’t want snapping on during the option-drag, you add -n- to the mix. However, this leaves snapping on when you end the move and that requires another n or a push of the snapping button.
For me, this totally blows because I have to relearn how to do something I liked. (*Sigh.)
Dumba$Ses, they should have asked me first..

[JeremyG] “I think it’s handy, as most of the time when doing a shuffle edit you are going to want to swap the entire order (this is where snapping comes in handy) instead of insert the clip in between the ins and outs of one clip.
“It changes the interface tremendously. Shffle editing is meaningless to me, never used it. What I need option-dragging for is trimming the video independently from the audio and this tweak makes that almost, but not quite, impossible.
Option-dragging in the timeline is to an operation I have been unable to reprogram from my Media 100 days. Since Apple has no disabled the function I employed in favor of improving something called Shuffling,, I’ve got no choice but to figure out a new way to work.
BTW: This new routine is supposed to return snapping to the same state it was in before you hit option. If you don’t want snapping on at all during the Shuffle, you’re supposed to add n to the keyboard combination. But this screws me up because now I have activated snapping so when the option -drag is finished, snapping remains on and I have to use another n or push the snap button to turn it off.
they should have asked me first, that’s all.

“quicktime” doesn’t help us much unfortunately. There are dozens of QT codecs, which one is this QT?
Has importing QT ever worked for you before?
Where did the file come from? Do you trust the origin? Can you open this file in any other QT-aware application like Premiere or QT Player? Flash Player?bogiesan

Sorry won’t cut it.
You leaped irresponsibly soon.
I do not see the card that is in your Mini listed as being supported for Motion. Can you quote that for us?bogiesan

Have ay of you guys used Soundtrack Pro? Or Garageband? Why can’t we get that timeline paradigm in FCP?
