I have a client that I delivered a 3 minute HDV 1080I 60 video to. He wants to encode as a flash video for his site and he has a PC. He bought Flix pro to encode the video. Apparently flix pro does not support HDV so I told him to buy QT pro. That too, to my surprise, does not seem to support HDV. I have an Apple Dual 2ghz Power PC G5 with FCP and QT pro but no Flix pro. What is the best way to get him a .swf from HDV?

Why not down-rez to SD and encode that?

    David,

Flix Pro does support HDV, just not on the PC unfortunately. I just encoded a test with Flix Pro here to make sure and it works very well on the Mac.

As Matte suggested, you might have to export as a widescreen SD, probably using the animation codec.

I’m on my PB right now which has FCP 5.0.4 and QT 7.1.3 on it. I can export an FLV with
ON2VP6 codec (Flash 8) right from FCP or QT Pro. I’m not sure if it’s because
I have Flash 8 Pro installed or if it comes with FCP and/or QT Pro, but I can do it.
Putting the flv into a swf is another process entirely.

the advanced Adobe products have installed your FLV capabilities. Can’t be done without someone’s encoder besides Apple’s.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
