There is no way that I know of to extract metadata from jpegs in After Effects. Then there is the problem of grabbing that info and filling a text filter or text layer with it properly parsed and delimited.

I can’t even get Bridge to superimpose metadata.

Hope you get some other responses but this is the first time I recall the topic ever coming up. There may or may not be a script out there someplace that will do this for you; it sounds possible. You might open the extensive scripting documentation in the online help system and see if you want to tackle it yourself.

Sweep moves the camera. So whatever the camera is pointing at appears to move.
You want to add a throw behavior to the item, not to the camera.

If you are having this much trouble with the fundeamentals of Motion’s interface and construction paradigm, I strongly suggest you leave the 3D stuff till later.

Couldn’t see anything at that point that looked like slot machine but I’m an impatient guy.
What do you need to appear on the slot reels? There’s a fabulous LiveFont that you might be able to use.

The biggest mistake you will see in such effects from newbies is that natural events like rain are chaotic. The readily available simulations and particle systems are not. You need to figure out how to achieve your look. It ain’t easy to make fake rain look real. It’s easier to shoot real rain and make it look fake.

Yes to most of the above but give yourself some slack. The section in the AE manual on alphas is long and confusing. I imagine the one in the Avid manual is, too. Read them carefully. Probably twice.

The background is often just a photo of beautiful paper or a construct.
Typing is easily accomplished, just look for “type on” in the AE help system.
Chosing a good typewriter typeface is often more important than the rest of the simulation. You got a few with your system. You may need to decay them to make them look like they’re typed and not flawless digital representations. The best typewriter collections have multiple versions of several letters that appear randomly.

Yes and no but we must ask, “The edges of what?”
Between pixels or at the edge of your object?

January 16, 2008 at 8:17 pm in reply to: Overscan with Newer LDC/Plasma Units?

I recently helped a friend hook up a room full of 6 new plasmas. All the exact same LG units, set to factory defaults. Some show an exact representation of the pixels. Others were cropped at about 3%. Maybe 5%. Almost indiscernible but we had a test signal grid and could easily see what was missing. We couldn’t find a way to adjust the picture back into place and there appeared to be at least one improperly mounted screen bezel.

Err on the conservative side and assume some cropping.

I post these as a matter of habit to most captioning threads. Valuable information for those who need it. waste of time for those who already know all about this stuff.
