    Yar.
But I think you’re going to be much happier if you don’t try to import the M100 files, even if you have the portable file reader from M100 or Boris.

Instead, have your M100 operator export them in a conventional QT format. Be sure to save them to a Mac-formatted drive if you’re moving them around.

Be sure to check for advice on the Media 100 forum here on the cow.

There’s a pretty good collection of educators in the apple.com discusssions/forums areas. Sounds like you need some OS10 help setting up multiple users.

You can search for the GREEN SCREEN issue here, we’ve seen it covered many times, different solutions. Tossing the user settings is not the same as tossing the .plist files, the prefs. If trashing the prefs solves the greenies for you, it can suggest your version of FCP is not compatible with your version of QT.

But I have one question for you: Has this setup EVER worked for you?

the decision to use a RAID on a portable Mac is not so easily answered. You really need to know exactly why you need an array and what you think you care going to accomplish. IMproved throughput, data backup/integrity, or more streams of HD? These are often mutually exclusive.

Google RAID to find lots of helpful sites that explain the various types and styles of RAID.

General advice is not to animate orientation. Only use orientation to set initial pointing.
other general advice would be to place null object and use it as the object at which you point the camera. Parent the camera to the null. Rotate, spin, or move the null and the camera will follow.

If this is your first 3d project, investigate the null object and parenting sections of the help system carefully. If you have other AE resources, read those sections, too. These are not difficult topics but they’re unusual if you don’t have 3D experience. Nulls and parenting are crucial to enjoying 3D composition.

My pleasure, Mike, and thanks for the kind words. Aaron’s advice to get zax, if you can bill for it, is great, but I’ve never used any of Zax’s tools. When you add lighting and shadows, which your client will want next time, rendering time can go up by a power of 3; not three times, cubed!
    3D makes my head hurt.

Easy to do in LT as five separate text items. Add fade out effect.
I’d suggest you create your five lines in LT but export them one at a time, as five separate movies. That way you have complete timing control. If you leave them in one large LT file, you have to keep tweaking the whole thing each time you want to make minor changes.

You won’t be able to do a horizontal wipe that travels up or down the screen in LT.

Nice work good choice of subtle but easy to do moves on the logos.
Your problem is that your client doesn’t know when to stop and you haven’t figured out a way to say, “enough already!” Be sure you are able to bill for the additional animation.

Separating the logo elements shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Just precomp the Belmont logo and set it up so the layers fall apart form each other as the main comp’s camera moves in. You can even set the windows to actually open.

all of the additional object and camera movements will require some screen time. That is, if you go to all the trouble to add the moves, you need more frames to spend on them, to see them, or the effects are wasted. That will take away form the screen time devoted to the live action, can’t be helped.

You’ve already established an easy transition style through the logos that saves you tons of 3D work but I think your client is going to want you to do this more complicated effect on all of the other logos.

Hope you get more advice, too. You’ve done a nice piece of work.

January 14, 2008 at 5:58 pm in reply to: color wave

    Define “wave.”
All you need is a circular wipe, mask, or iris to reveal the colorized layer beneath the monochrome layer.
Adding effects to the front edge of the wipe pattern is another discussion as is adding dynamic or atmospherics. You might get more useful invofmaiton over on the AE BAsics forum

Look for “disk catalog” or directory log or similar terms. I don’t knwo what’s availabel these days but they were quite popular four-six years ago.
