    Hi Guys,

Small problem. My editing suite has around 20 G5s in it that are all connected to a larger network through ADmitMac.
    My problem is this:

The hardrives are partitioned into a MacHD and a Work Area for the students to capture and save footage. When i set the Work area as the primary scratch disk in FCP5 it brings up a read/write error warning, but the work area is read and writable. FCP finally loads up with Green screens in the viewer and canvas. My solution was to go and trash final cut pro user settings along with com.apple.finalcutpro. When i do this it solves the problem. I can load up FCP and set the scratch disks to the work area and everything is hunky dory. HOWEVER – When logged in under my name i trashed the com.apple.finalcutpro, logged out, then logged in on another Mac couldn’t set the scratch disks so followed my procedure only com.apple.finalcutpro wasn’t there so i just deleted the Final cut pro user settings. Booted up FCP, it gave me the no firewire warning then once i’d clicked past, FCP pro failed to load (it crashed). I’ve rebooted and tried again, no joy. It isn’t a serial number problem of that i’m certain as i’ve been through every machine and double checked it. Help, if it happens again when a student is logged in and they can’t access final cut then there’s going to be trouble!

There’s a pretty good collection of educators in the apple.com discusssions/forums areas. Sounds like you need some OS10 help setting up multiple users.

You can search for the GREEN SCREEN issue here, we’ve seen it covered many times, different solutions. Tossing the user settings is not the same as tossing the .plist files, the prefs. If trashing the prefs solves the greenies for you, it can suggest your version of FCP is not compatible with your version of QT.

But I have one question for you: Has this setup EVER worked for you?

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

yeah, it has worked in the past. And having checked no a couple of other Macs i can use those machines, it’s just the two machines where i trashed things. Maybe i trashed the wrong stuff? Oh dear.

P.s trashing the .plist files, is that all of them? or just ones that are associated with FCP?

    Cheers
