Thanks to the help of the Creative Cow community I was able to complete my first project using AE. But now I have another question. Review the video in the below link first:

    https://www.kyvideopro.com/index.php?option=com_zoom&Itemid=34&page=view&catid=5&PageNo=1&key=0&hit=1

All of my elements are setup in a 3d space. The logos are all several layers. My client wants the camera to be able to zoom into the “Belmont Park” logo at the begining and then fly past the horse and then the bushes and then to the window panes. But in order to give them enough seperation to make it possible, it messes up the logo and I start going through the backside of the logo and seeing the map, which is the ground and the orange sky. So, how do you go from one 3d space, through something like a hole in a logo, and then onto what looks like another 3d space? Sorry if this makes no sense in my language, but hopefully you get what I mean 🙂

Nice work good choice of subtle but easy to do moves on the logos.
Your problem is that your client doesn’t know when to stop and you haven’t figured out a way to say, “enough already!” Be sure you are able to bill for the additional animation.

Separating the logo elements shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Just precomp the Belmont logo and set it up so the layers fall apart form each other as the main comp’s camera moves in. You can even set the windows to actually open.

all of the additional object and camera movements will require some screen time. That is, if you go to all the trouble to add the moves, you need more frames to spend on them, to see them, or the effects are wasted. That will take away form the screen time devoted to the live action, can’t be helped.

You’ve already established an easy transition style through the logos that saves you tons of 3D work but I think your client is going to want you to do this more complicated effect on all of the other logos.

Hope you get more advice, too. You’ve done a nice piece of work.

Thanks Bogiesan, you’ve given me some good ideas to work on. I think we’ve decided to leave it “as is” for now, luckily, but in the future I’m sure this probelm will come up again, so its good to know the answer. Thanks!

if you’re client is paying, maybe you can pad the cost of this into your project for the extra work…

Zaxwerks has a plug-in that can distribute objects in 3D space, but scale them up appropriately so they look the same. In other words, it moves them back and scales them up so that they appear to be the same size until you move into 3D space.

My pleasure, Mike, and thanks for the kind words. Aaron’s advice to get zax, if you can bill for it, is great, but I’ve never used any of Zax’s tools. When you add lighting and shadows, which your client will want next time, rendering time can go up by a power of 3; not three times, cubed!
    3D makes my head hurt.
