Any routine that simulates a waving flag can be adapted to this concept but the reality is definitely an illusion. AE just won’t do 3D distortion by itself.

We see this question weekly so scroll down a few dozen pages and you will see many similar inquiries.

See the Adobe marketing hype pages for advice on cards.
OpenGL is only good for previewing at the moment.
CS4 is going to change a few things so don’t buy anything based on CS3.

Does it actually change z space position or does it flip?
There is a setting someplace (sorry not at my AE machine to check the Help system for you) that switches how the camera orients to the path. If you can find it, change that setting to the other option.

The best way to do camera moves is to use a null object to trace your path. Set keyframes for position of the null in 3D space. Smooth the path by using eases or controlling the Beziers.

Parent the camera to the null but offset the anchor point for the camera so the camera is above the roadway. There are many other things you can do to smooth out the camera as it follows the path including adding expressions to add banking, ballistics, inertia, and acceleration.

Okie dokie, but we still don’t know what format you’re working in or will be delivering.

Documentaion provided on DVD or via Internet will not benefit form any improvements.

This zoom move of yours that is causing so much trouble was apparently shot differently than everything else. I cannot tell from your description if it’s likely to be a simple interlacing issue or something terribly complicated. I’m guessing the clip was shot (or captured) as progressive.

About all we can do without actually seeing it.

Will your output be 24% from one playback device or 4x full screen on four different systems?

    > I’m getting the dreaded blocky renders out of Compressor. The images break up at random times, mostly during dissolves. This was a problem a while ago, and I thought it had been corrected. I’m rendering 90minute Best Quality (2pass vbr) from a self-contained DV Quicktime. < "The dreaded" implies that we all see this from time to time and we don't. Blocky dissolves are caused by encoding settings. "Random times," are you sure? Do you mean they occur randomly during playback of the compressed file or they play back at the same place but the artifact is apparently created at random during the compression run? Random is rare. "Random" implies a drive or bus issue not a media issue. A media issu would mean you get the same artifacts in the same place with every compression run regardless of your settings. "Thought it had been corrected" by whom? Apple? bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

September 29, 2008 at 4:34 pm in reply to: Who creates 2D maps of mountainous regions for video use?

Our internal shop uses GIS (mostly ARC-GIS) applications to extract and combine any type of spatial and overlay data for custom mapping output. they often send us .psds that have dozens of layers. We just turn the ones we need on or off in Photoshop.

If goggle Maps or Google Earth can’t satisfy your needs, try looking for GIS of the Yellowstone area. There must be literally thousands of maps for that region that include any geological, geographical, political and miscellaneous data you can imagine.

September 29, 2008 at 4:28 pm in reply to: Problems pasting keyframes from a text files

I do not know of any text editor that creates keyframes. Keyframes are specific, in this case, to animation parameters and and app like Word does not exist in that universe.

What application are you using for this “text file” of yours? What do you expect or think is going to happen?

September 29, 2008 at 4:24 pm in reply to: How to copy illustrator path to After effects?

First, RTFM. The amount of information on moving paths form AI to AE is enormous, thorough, and readily searchable.
Then, create a mask for the layer.
Paste your path into the mask’s shape.
