    i am using cs3.
I created a square in illustrator with the pen tool. i highlight it and “edit>copy” then i go to AE and select a solid layer and i cannot choose “edit>paste”.

how do i get this path into AE?

First, RTFM. The amount of information on moving paths form AI to AE is enormous, thorough, and readily searchable.
Then, create a mask for the layer.
Paste your path into the mask’s shape.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

Did you ever get this figured out? I did read the manual and still could not get it to work. Thanks, Jennifer

I know this thread is old…but any idea as to why this doesn’t work for me sometimes in CS3…every once in a while it won’t work…I purge in AFX…clear clipboard data in XP. Still nothing.

The only way to fix it is to close AFX, reopen and then it works. It’s really annoying…anyone else have that problem?

Sorry, I have CS2. But I have the same issues – pretty finiky! Let me know if you ever figure this out – I would love for a solution to be found.
