Were they created on a PC.
Maybe you can open them in Photoshop and make sure they are in the RGB color space and not CMYK.
from there you can resave as tiff for example.

Make sure your keep your frame size to 720 480 as you do not want to perform any scaling to the orginal DV material as you may introduce interlacing problems.
ALso remember that you are changing from a 4:1:1 color space to a 4:4:4 color space and ultimately back to a 4:1:1 or 4:2:2 color space (depending on which codec you end up outptting with in FCP, but it won’t be 4:4:4 unles you have a raid that can handle the speed required and a deck that can accept 4:4:4 (Sony SR).
So before you run your film through all of that transcoding you might consider bumping it to a nice 4:2:2 codec (like DVCPRO50) and color grade it in FCP.
Just a couple of thoughts, that might save you a lot of useless effort and help you avoid potential problems.

I am talking about the ACTUAL LIVETYPE PROJECT file that is saved. NOT the files that you render from LIVETYPE these Livetype projects. If you want to try this on your own do this. Save your livetype project and all of your renders in the same folder and then import the folder.
You will get the error described in the origional post.
Of course Livetype is designed to work with FCP.

Your livetype project file is in the same folder. That is the invalid type.
Did you render a movie to use in FCP. That is what you need to do to. You need to render a movies and then import that for use in FCP.
FCP does not open livetype project files.

You can only adjust the incoming levels if you use a composite input. Composite is the least quality way of bringing in footage.
Maybe you can just drop a 3 way CC real time affect on the clips in the timeline to bring the overall levels down. This is a very normal practice.

I am sure there is a way to create a compressor preset to do the conversion.
Maybe output all the stills to a folder and drop them into compressor for teh 853×480 resize.
