H.264 is not an editing codec. It never was. It is a delivery codec.
It’s best to create media and edit with an editing friendly codec. This is true in premiere pro too. Get a hundred shots in H264 in a timeline and it will choke, especially if you mix codecs.

I think that clearly answers pretty much every grave, heart stopping, business ending, I’m defecting, not professional, iMovie pro, how do I export?, how do I capture?, what about sound, open old projects, concern raised in the wild, frenzied, crazed, wild dog, rabid, uptight, passionate, heartfelt comment, discusion and debate raised in the past week.

iMovie costs 14.99 and does 300 percent more than it’s users need it to do.
Why do think iMovie users are going to shill out an extra 285$ to get a program that is way to advanced for them?

Print- apple introduces desktop printing and changes publishing and design
Audio- apple gets sued by apple records for putting an in out audio recording device on their computer. Then revolutionizes music with computer driven sets ups and finds a way to share music over the Internet where artists can sell their work.
Motion pictures/moving media – final cut pro democratized editing film. FCPX is phase two of opening up editing to the world.
Edit systems should be fluid, they should be assessable and powerful and they should cost next to nothing. That allows people into the fray. I’m glad apple did this. There is a whole generation of people who will benefit from this and use their tools and delivery mechanisms (the web) to share and tell stories.
What people don’t get about all the web functionality (until it happens) is when how this will open up global thinking with the fastest growing sector.
People WATCH the Internet now more than they READ the Internet. I see FCPX as a kind of media literacy tool, built for the media world forming.
I know I might sound overly optimistic and too positive but its not about us. It’s about our kids now.

One thing i did for this was to’ remai The keyboard to pit the in and out markets beside the f key. In a long clip you can mark in the out then hit f to make it a favorite.
Do this ten times in a clip. then drag all of the favorites into the timeline for a rough assembly of the interview clips. Uber fast.
You can then assign keywords to the favorites if you like. But each favorite is actually a subclip. Pretty cool.

I will use it on at this point in time after determining the following factors:
1. Does this job require me going outside of FCPX ?
If I have to hand the sound or picture over to a sound house or post house then I have to use FCS, Avid or Adobe. If lightworks was on a MAC I might use that.
If I choose to keep a specific project within FCP-X tool set then I will use that.
I like FCPx because I like how quickly shots can be assembled and edited. Sure, it took a day to get used to but like any software it acvomplishes a specific task.
I’m going to use it whenever I can because I believe that within 12 months, many people will have implemented it after Apple answers a few questions.
To some the very fact that the software looks like imovie offends their sensibility as a professional. I try not to get offended by those things. A couple of months ago I put iMovie on my phone and made two little films. Not because I wanted to see what it was like. I’m not so invested in any software that my life and death depends on it because I would never want the stress that comes when a company makes a change the way Apple did.
The one thing I firmly believe is that Apple should provide a free way to migrate older projects into the new software. I completely recognize that need from an archival perspective. That move was irresponsible to the customer base.
Nothing is certain. Ever. A lot of people are reacting towards apple they way they might after a relationship breakup. They feel cheated after being emotionally
invested.But an investment in apple is a business relationship, not a life partner relationship (although many editors spend more tome with their software than their spouse).
FCPX is a business decision. Emotion can not enter to deeply into it.
Heres how I see it. For 300 dollars I can try a new app by apple. If it doesn’t work out it was three hundred bucks and I find the solution I need.
