Today.
We will have to see how Apple reacts and how quickly new feature set are released.
One thing is for sure. I can still use FCP 7 as long as I want to on the existing hardware I have for quite some time.
There was a lot of speculation leading up to this release and a lot of expectation, but I have to say Apple, FCP and their hardware have allowed MANY people on these forums to earn a good living with very affordable high quality tools.
To give them “zero space” one day after a rebuild and a new concept is a very high bar.

I just like that there are many smart technologies built into this software and I like the approach.
I can not use it on every job, but there are some things I am seeing that it does very very well.
I am glad they made a bold move, I have been staring at the same software with different names for two decades.
At least they are attempting a fresh approach to how media is organized and assembled.
It does not bother me that they are trying to make the machine do more of the work. And we can turn it all off.
I need a week. I need to read more, try more and test more.
Yes. I agree that OMF and XML and EDL missing is a large problem, but I doubt that we will never see that implemented or see ways to implement that.

If you want a non linear edting system to have a tape mentality (which all of them do) as in source over here record over there, then this software is not for you.
I remember AVID editors who were so attached to the fact that they could make each track a fancy color that they wouldn’t switch to FCP.
Many “pros” are in a comfort zone. Apple does their market research. In that sense a “professional” should understand that Apple has the resources to “actually” understand what is happening in the world of multimedia right now.
Share to e-mail. Yes. Why not email a short cut to your producer to watch on her iphone? Does anyone think that is not professional? That that won’t be the norm in six months?
My approach is simple. Embrace. It is going to be around.

It’s well thought out. There will be some pain learning a new language, but they made it easier.
People are jumping the gun at killing it way to early. They thought of a new way to approach things. I would have been sad if it looked like every other piece of editing software ever invented.
They made a bold move in a new direction. I like the direction once people see how quick it is and begin to poweruse it, I think it will turn heads.

You are a great businessman and you are absolutely correct. You can fly with FCP 7 for a long time in your operation.
As a few weeks fly by and people take a moment to explore what Apple has done, i think that the thinking will change. This tool is very fast for breaking down material.
The rest will come.
I like the whole new interface and idea and there is a lot of power under the hood. The image quality is amazing.
All these years of people bitching, all these years of people crapping on FCP, people wanting change.
I think Apple delivered and this will be a preffered tool for people who EDIT. Take it for an editing ride. It’s very cool.
