not really but by deselecting the target track in the timeline you can only cut in what ever part you want from the source clip, V A1 or A2 individually.

I agree, you should be able to see it because if it is on line 21 of the vitc then the kona should be sending it and the monitor should see it.
It seems strange because I have seen captions on my second, cheapo SONY home TV reference thing, but that is via the component ouputs.
Maybe you can send a little e-mail to AJA support on this.

March 10, 2006 at 7:44 pm in reply to: Back-up firewire recording simultaneously to P2How do you record to firewire?
Do you mean you want to record to a hard drive and the P2 card at teh same time?

March 10, 2006 at 7:43 pm in reply to: My problems with color correcting P2 footage. What I meant in my hurried and typo’d post was this.
You capture your footage DVCPRO HD.
You edit it natively in the codec.
You media manage the cut to a 10 bit uncompressed online.
You Color correct and do what ever multigenerational FX you have to implement in the 10 bit color space.
So your master is now 10-bit uncompressed and “quote, unquote” more pristine than the orginal footage because it it 10 bit uncompressed.
SO it seems odd that if you had to relink to the camera orginals, the camera originals would not be in as good a codec as the master.
Seems strange but theoretically, it’s true?

If you know you will be rendering anyway you might consider recompressing to a SHEER video codec, the are not RT enabled in FCP but the file size is about one third the file size of regular 10 bit uncompressed.
Please use FCP submit feedback to request that this codec be RT enabled in FCP it would be a fantastic space saver and it is still uncompressed.

March 10, 2006 at 6:23 pm in reply to: To online or not to online… That is the question.Probably the best work flow would be to have the film house convert the DVCPRO 720P HD project to 2k for the filmout. You could also convert it in FCP with Quicktime and the results will be similar. Some houses have a proprietary process for this, but most of it is based on QT algorythems. You should do your color timing with a baselight or a comprable film based timing color system on the 2K files as you will be in Cineon color space giving you more dynamic range.
A typical mistake is to color correct in video and then hand it to the film house for the film out. The firewire transfer is lossless from the tape onto the hard drive. People might tell you that redigitizing to a 10 bit codec will be better and I would agree with them ONLY IF FINISHING IN VIDEO. The best method is to transfer from the digital source (the stuff on your hard drives) to 2K and color correct in film color space.
Remeber, you did not record the image you say in the monitor, you recorded a severly compressed (with a very good compression scheme) picture to a DVCPRO HD tape. The monitor showed you a clean, uncompressed signal, not what was recorded to tape. It would be nice if the Varicam had a “compressed” output for monitoring purposes so DP’s could avoid the occassional compression blocking we see withthis codec.

March 9, 2006 at 1:28 pm in reply to: No variable framerate with Firestore FS-100?HI,
I you go to this page and read it
https://www.focusinfo.com/solutions/catalog.asp?id=150
you will see that it records all of the streams coming off the camera. I might be making a big presumption but I am pretty sure it would record all of the data that the P2 card would record, thus if you are shooting offspeed footage then it will also be recording the flg frames that that later have to be removed by FCP’s frame rate converter.
If it will record 24frames it will record 48 or 60.
The way the technology works is that the camera always records 59.94. When you shoot speed the camera identifies the frames that need to be removed by the frame rate converter and those frames are removed to produce the speed that you have requested.
IE at 24P the camera records 59.94 but you then later remove the additional frames to produce the 24P.
The firestore records that stream via firewire, so unless that DATA is NOT being added to the firewire stream, it is being recorded.

Select the shot with the effect move, etc.
right click and select copy. ( or hold down option)
select the shot you want the same effect on.
right click and select PASTE ATTRIBUTES
the move is placed on the new shot. The same goes for filters, motion and a bunch of other things as well.
With specific effects (dissolves or transitions) you can double click on the effect and then grab the little hand tool in the top right corner of the viewer window, it changes to a hand, drag it to the browser and you have a custom effect that you can place in a bin.
You can also drag these project to project. Try that on an avid.

The short answer is no, it will not open in V2.0
THe longer answer is perhaps you can try to use XML from 4.5, but I am not certain that 2 had xml built in, The other option is to use EDL’s CMX 3600 probably work for you, but you would loose keyframe data.
An upgrade from a legal copy of 2.0 to 5.0 would cost only 699.99 USD and you can run it on that brand new quad as well.
