No variable framerate with Firestore FS-100?
Posted by Eric Steinberg on March 9, 2006 at 10:29 amHello!
Is it true that the Firestore FS-100 will not support the HVX-200’s variable framerates?
Kind regards,

I you go to this page and read it
https://www.focusinfo.com/solutions/catalog.asp?id=150
you will see that it records all of the streams coming off the camera. I might be making a big presumption but I am pretty sure it would record all of the data that the P2 card would record, thus if you are shooting offspeed footage then it will also be recording the flg frames that that later have to be removed by FCP’s frame rate converter.
If it will record 24frames it will record 48 or 60.
The way the technology works is that the camera always records 59.94. When you shoot speed the camera identifies the frames that need to be removed by the frame rate converter and those frames are removed to produce the speed that you have requested.
IE at 24P the camera records 59.94 but you then later remove the additional frames to produce the 24P.
The firestore records that stream via firewire, so unless that DATA is NOT being added to the firewire stream, it is being recorded.

March 9, 2006 at 9:53 pmWho knows for sure, but it’ll probably be like capturing offspeed stuff from a varicam. You have the clip at 59.94 and then you conform it for the offspeed stuff using the free plug in from Panasonic/Apple. It’s just one extra step.
The firewire output is going to always output 720p60. You need to now remove the flagged frames from the 720p60 sequence to get your slow/fast motion. The cineporter is supposed to be able to record just the active frames like a P2 card, because the cineporter will be hooked into the p2 card spigot instead of the firewire spigot and therefore will not need the duplicate frames. We’ll see how that all plays out in the near future, I’m sure.
