Sometimes when I’ve made a change to a graphic, overwriting the original and keeping the same name, upon reconnect to the new file FCP loses track of the transparency. -

Use your index finger to keep the timeline focus on the CTI as it plays, scrolling the timeline from right to left as it goes…This isn’t an Avid, for the scrolling timeline you gotta lay out another couple thousand bucks!

Gotta love AppleCare!
Have an Apple notebook? Get AppleCare!

So what one ends up with is two partitions. One (A) with all the FCS apps installed, running the latest OS/QT combination. The other partition (B) would have Avid and all other apps that don’t need constant point release updates, using an older Avid-qualified OS/QT.
In A’s Applications folder there would be aliases (aliaii?) pointing to programs that were installed while booted into partition B – and therefore in B’s Applications folder. And one could launch and run apps from partition B while booted under partition A (as long as those apps would function under the other OS).Does that sound right?

I’ve been wondering about this for a long time. If one needs to partition and install separate systems for FCS2 and Avid, what about other common third-party apps like Photoshop (CS Suite need its own partition/system?), Toast, etc? Do the other apps need to be installed on each partition discretely so that preference files and application support stuff is put in the right place? Or does everything get installed once into the Application folder and it’s up to the user to know which apps can run under which system?
Is there a helpful, easy-to-follow tutorial out there for those of us that just don’t get the whole concept? Thanks,

I’m assuming you’re making an Avid title then animating it using keyframes (a) or converting the title to 3D (b) and using keyframes to animate it. If a, then select the titles in your sequence and open the effect editor. Hold down Option (alt) and click then drag the little effect icon from the upper part of the effect editor to a bin. You should see the name of the effect in your bin followed by (without Src). If b, then do the same drag but don’t hold down the option (alt) key.
Now cut your new title into the sequence, then drag the effect from your bin onto the title clip in the sequence. It should now animate exactly the same way.
Hope this helps. -
Okay, should’ve gone to bed but am a bit obsessive when it comes to stuff like this. So I opened up my Avid to find the answer.
I found that I could vary the duration of a created title by adding or inserting pages to the content of the roll. This was done by adjusting the font size, adding lines inbetween, or inserting, removing, or adding pages to the title (Object pulldown menu with Title tool open).
I can only assume that some programmer in Tewksbury found the smoothest roll rate for Avid DV and baked it into the Title Tool code.
So if you want your title roll to be longer in duration, add more words!
Sounds like a joke, right? -
A couple of your issues are in your settings.
The default title duration I believe is in Digitize or Media Creation (can’t recall right now).
However, when you trim the rolling title clip out to a longer length in the sequence, the start & end keyframes stay at the beginning and end of the clip, and the roll will take longer – or that’s how it’s supposed to work.
The other thing to check is your Title setting. Set it to either Title tool, Marquee, or “Ask Me” every time you create or edit a title.
No other advise at this time, tho. -
Does this time limit happen on new rolling titles?
Try a new one just for testing, drop it in the seq and see if you can trim out to length.
You may have to then copy and psate in the text from the other one. -
