  • G4 Dual 867 – Need new video card for FCP 6 – Possible?

Posted by Jack Bibbo on November 5, 2008 at 9:27 pm

So I need a PCI-e or AGP Video card for FCP 6/Studio 2. I have a G4 dual 867. To my knowledge I have no PCI e slots. But will an AGP video work with a PCI slot. And if so which card should I get with this computer.

    thanks

    I have a DUAL 867.

    I would rather not upgrade.

I imagine the FCP may be slow on this machine but I want to be able to do some things.

So what card do you have in there now?
I put an ATI Radeon 9800 in my Quicksilver 2002 (AGP) and it fits the spec, plus runs Avid Xpress nicely. I’m not running FCS2 on that box, though, so don’t take it as a qualification.
As long as your card supports core image and quartz extreme you should be fine.

No, an AGP video card will not work in a PCI slot (I don’t even think it would fit in one).

You may not WANT to upgrade but you will NEED to because FCS2 probably will not even let you install in on a computer that does not have a 1.25 ghz processor.

Jack’s G4 has an AGP slot. According to Mac Tracker, it’s a 4X slot. I expect that it will be difficult to find a compatible card.
