March 16, 2009 at 10:12 pmYou mean… follow the playhead?
You don’t… Not in FCP.

March 16, 2009 at 11:31 pmGot an Apple “Mighty Mouse” with scroll ball?
Use your index finger to keep the timeline focus on the CTI as it plays, scrolling the timeline from right to left as it goes…This isn’t an Avid, for the scrolling timeline you gotta lay out another couple thousand bucks!

March 17, 2009 at 1:04 amThanks, this is what I have been doing and it works. I was just hoping there was a way to keep the playhead in the center of the timeline. Seems like such a basic feature that it would have been demanded long ago.

March 17, 2009 at 1:51 amYeah, I demanded it after version 1.0., and here we are 10 years later. I guess I don’t have much clout over at Apple.

March 17, 2009 at 4:15 amYou can also press h and drag it around manually. Much preferred over the scrolling timeline. That was the first feature I turned off on avid.

March 17, 2009 at 2:13 pmWell I specifically asked them not to implement a scrolling timeline because I dislike that feature so much… maybe they listened to me. 🙂

March 17, 2009 at 4:07 pmYou do this manually with your mouse, it’s pretty simple to hit the right arrow on the bottom of the timeline, it will scroll through while it’s playing. Not perfect, but it works.
Have a wonderful day.

March 17, 2009 at 7:22 pmIt could at least be a “user preferences” option.
In my case right now. I am playing back my finished edit but have to get rid of all the lip smacks the speaker made. It helps me greatly to follow the audio track and pen them out.
Maybe there are other ways but this feature should be included. It is only a bad thing if it were included and couldn’t be turned off.
