I’m sure they’ll make Windows 8 drivers. Most ‘decent’ hardware companies do eventually make drivers when a new OS is released. Windows 8 has been available to hardware vendors for quite some time, so i’m surprised that they didn’t start making the drivers when the Beta came out. Maybe they did…..who knows.
I’m assuming you purchased this computer with Win8 installed? If so, just install Windows 7, if you need this device that bad. There is no logical reason to have Windows 8 unless you have something that can only run on Windows 8. Once they release the updated driver, then you can reinstall Windows 8.
This is further proof, for those that want to upgrade their operating systems, to make sure every bit of software and hardware they use is compatible to run on Windows 8. Never just assume!

So if the BluRay played fine, then your computer isn’t powerful enough to play the clip smoothly.

What are you playing the video on, your computer? If so, are you using Windows Media Player? Are you playing the video full screen? Does it play any differently when not having the player maximized? Have you tried creating a Blu Ray and see how it plays on a set-top player? Have you tried playing the clip back on another computer?
I’ve seen this happen on quite a few computer systems, and it’s usually the system is being over-taxed while playing the video, hence the laggyness. If your computer has its resources being used by other programs it can cause playback issues.

It’s been a while since i’ve come across clips where the video & audio were not in sync, but it always came down to the computer they were being played on (not enough system power). Somethings not right if you have a modern, powerful system.
Is this happening when playing the video full screen? If you decrease the size of the player window, to maybe 25% of original, is it still out of sync?

Two-pass rendering is always worth it, if you can live with the extended render time. If you’re looking for the best video quality, then you’ll want to enable this.
GPU acceleration doesn’t affect video quality, just render times (if GPU is supported). Hence its name.
By choosing variable bit rate, you might have a slightly lower render time, but if you’re going to enable two-pass rendering, you might as well choose constant bit rate and crank it to 11!
I’m sure some of the super-experts on here, like John R., can give more detailed (and probably better) advice on this subject since i’m not an expert.

You might want other AMD Phenom II users to give some input on what their render speeds are, but I believe that what you are experiencing is normal for what hardware you have. If you want to increase your performance, unfortunately you’ll have to swap out your motherboard and CPU to a Z77/Intel Ivy Bridge combo.

Here is a Tom’s Hardware mega-test of almost all CPUs from late 2012. Ivy Bridge i7 processors are faster at rendering than the older Sandy Bridge processors. Even the i5 Ivy Bridge is faster than many of the i7 Sandy Bridge CPUs.

No reason to get a new computer since you already have an excellent CPU. Have you checked to see if you have lots of crap running on system startup? This is always the first place to check when the system starts running slow.
If you have Windows 7, click the Windows ‘ball’ at lower left and in the search box type MSCONFIG. When the configuration window opens, click the Startup tab. Uncheck EVERYTHING except your antivirus software, then click ‘Apply’. Reboot your computer.
Upon reboot you’ll get a popup about running in a special configuration setting, so click ‘do not show this message again’.
Now see if this improved things.

What are your other system specs, specifically the CPU? I would render with option of CPU only and see if it is faster, equal to, or slower.
