Sony Vegas Pro 12 GTX 770 rendering slow
Posted by Marius Dalangauskas on October 8, 2013 at 5:38 pmAs the title says, I have a GTX 770 and the video rendering time is very slow. I am using Sony AVC Custom preset. If any info is needed, just say so.

October 8, 2013 at 9:49 pmDefine slow? In other words, what are you getting and what were you expecting?
Have you rendered on the same machine with the same template and got something not slow?
Are the sources the same (camera+settings) as previous file renders of acceptable performance?
Are your project settings the same as your sources and template?

October 9, 2013 at 3:51 amI am recording gameplay of various games, but my recording software’s settings are always the same. By slow I mean, for example, a 10 minute video renders for about 15-20 minutes. And to answer the 2nd question, I had a 9800GTX+ before and the render times were the same. By the way, GPU-Z shows, while rendering, that GPU load is 0%.

October 9, 2013 at 1:30 pmWhat are your other system specs, specifically the CPU? I would render with option of CPU only and see if it is faster, equal to, or slower.

October 9, 2013 at 2:01 pmIt’s definitely slower. I believe I posted 3 pictures of my settings and stuff, but the CPU is AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE. Using the CPU, it takes about 25-30 minutes to render a 10 minute video.

October 9, 2013 at 2:31 pmYou might want other AMD Phenom II users to give some input on what their render speeds are, but I believe that what you are experiencing is normal for what hardware you have. If you want to increase your performance, unfortunately you’ll have to swap out your motherboard and CPU to a Z77/Intel Ivy Bridge combo.

October 9, 2013 at 4:58 pmGPU load…
There are two separate GPU uses in Vegas and each has its on on/off setting.
As for the encoders, Sony AVC and Mainconcept AVC are the only ones that can use GPU.
Sony AVC does not use GPU very much but you should get a small performance boost from my experience. I do see some GPU load in GPU-z on my system. I cannot comment on Nvidia use as I am a AMD GPU person.
The Quicksync option in Sony AVC is another matter. It is actually a separate encoder. It is an interface to the hardware encoder built into Intel chipsets. Sony AVC code is really bypassed in this mode.
Vegas can use the GPU for creating the video stream but that use depends on what you are doing on your timeline. In other words, Vegas may or may not use GPU depending on which features you are using. If Vegas is using GPU here you should see some load during playback as well. If you want to test this then use “full” for your preview to get more work on the GPU so measurements are the most apparent.
