I was able to upgrade from Pro 8 to Pro 12 in late December 2012 for only $149 by calling Sony Creative Software directly and asking if they had any specials to give me. The sales guy pit me on hold and came back with the awesome price.

I don’t ‘Facebook’ so i’m not sure how they embed their videos. If I were in your shoes i’d render out one 720p video and one 1080 video and compare the playback of each. Whichever one looks better is the one i’d use.

I may be wrong, but I don’t think network rendering is really used for non-linear editing. Network rendering is really for the CGI industry.

+1 on what John said.
My older system had only 4gb of RAM and worked fine until I started working with larger (and better) footage. I cured the crashing by bumping up the RAM to 8gb and never had a crash after that. 4gb is just not enough RAM anymore.Dave

Anytime I read what John, Steve and some of the others ‘write’, I feel quite stupid. Then again, I read this forum to learn from all you pro editors. This kind of info is invaluable to me as I learn this fine craft.

Everybody has a different workflow, and what works for one may not be best for another. I think it depends on how you do your file organization. When I work, I place all my original video footage in one subfolder of my project. When it is time to import I just highlight one clip in the folder, hit CTRL+A, and that brings all the clips in at one time.
However my projects are very basic, so those that have different scenes, or shoot multi-cam, my way probably will not fit their workflow.

I have to give a GIANT thumbs up for the assistance that Mike is giving to the OP. To actulky request source footage so he could use his expertise to find the best solution is really something.

Sounds like your Windows login isn’t configured to have administrator privileges. I wouldn’t think that this would cause problems within Vegas but obviously it does.

Don’t feel sorry for posting this. This was an absolutely horrible tragedy, and I cannot imagine how the family members must feel, not knowing what happened to their loved ones.
