I used to edit 1080p HD footage (captured from MiniDV) that was stored on a Lacie external drive via USB and never had an issue with Vegas Pro 8 performing slowly, and that was on an old Intel Core 2 laptop. It can be a number of things causing your problem. Is the footage AVCHD clips?

I’m sure that your new computer has SATA connections. They are INTERNAL. You are probably thinking about eSata, which is external. SATA has been the defacto interface for internal drives for quite a few years.

I own a NEX-VG10 and upgraded from Pro 8 to Pro 12 so I could easily edit my video. I’m extremely happy with my upgrade decision.

    David,
How are you capturing (and printing to tape), via FireWire or USB? I used to capture (in Pro 8) from MiniDV using FireWire and was always able to view the video in the preview window. Maybe your ability not to coincides with the ‘stop playback’ issue?

It might be a system resource issue. Try opening the system resource monitor and during playback sew what your CPU & RAM utilization is, especially when you hit the space bar to stop playback.

I love it when Dave Haynie posts! He has so much in-depth knowledge on tiny specifics…..I just love it!

On a side note- yesterday I was perusing the Vegas Pro forum on Sony’s website and I noticed that somebody there copies Dave’s posts from here and pastes them over there as their own. Now THAT is flattery!!

There is nothing in ver. 13 that I would be taking advantage of, so no reason for me to upgrade (unless they offer it for some nice low price).

This is all Sony’s saying right now. Nothing about hardware.

I have the latest Nexus 7 tablet, which has an HD screen. It is probably closer to $199 but I love it. Vimeo looks awesome on it.

Here’s to hoping for an updated compatibility list of graphics cards (both nVidia and Radeon) for accelerated rendering via GPU.
