Alexander, I have used iShowU and it does some weird things for recording video to be edited. It doesn’t record a constant frame rate. So it may be playing anywhere from 5 to 30 FPS. I use the DV50 Codec which seems to work well. I haven’t used the animation codec but DV50 exports close to the same size as the original.

What is the viewing scale of your canvas window? At 100% my stills look fine in the canvas. Have you made a DVD and looked at your stills on at TV? As Jeremy said you can’t judge your images by the canvas.

Can’t say about the 1080P, but we are authoring Blu-ray from our XDAMHD 330 with 1080i and it looks great! We have tested the playback in the Sony 300, 500 and the PS3 and the BD-R and BD-RW all play.

Sony XDCAM HD does both SD and HD has good transfer rates from Blu-ray discs to FCP.
