[Maltaannon] “You need to change temporal interpolation from bezier or auto bezier to linear.”

    Not temporal interpolation, spatial interpolation.

[miabumbag] “2 – making a solid that’s comp size, drawing the line chart as a mask and then using stroke”

This does not apply directly to your pixelation question, but if your ‘line chart’ doesn’t consist of much more than longitude and latitude you could use the Generate > Grid effect and tweak the settings.

As for the pixelation issue, you might look into foregoing my previous suggestion and creating your grid/line chart in Adobe Illustrator. Then when you import it click the ‘Continously Rasterize’ layer switch (it looks like a sun) and the lines should remain sharp at all scales.

November 2, 2007 at 1:21 am in reply to: Particular Time Freeze with Push-In

[Baccus83] “Is there a way, in Particular, to freeze the particles in 3D space so I can move a camera around inside? I can’t seem to get them to stop emitting.”

Stopping particles from emitting and freezing them in space are two different undertakings.

To stop particles from emitting animate the Particles per second down to 0. To freeze the particles where they are animate the Physics Time Factor (PTF) down to 0.

There is also an option in the Motion Blur section to disregard the PTF, which freezes the particles but maintains the motion blur.

November 1, 2007 at 2:43 pm in reply to: text (logo) coming out from water

Things get complicated quickly this way, and every case takes some tweaking, but you can use the Wave World effect with your text as a custom floor to create displacements that match your logo’s contours.

Maybe I’ll post some more details on this later if I have the time.

  • [DanielHaskett] “1. They all just fall off the screen, is there anyway of making it so they stop at the bottom of the screen and gradually pile up on each other?”

You need to change the Physics model from Air to Bounce and then create a 3D layer to function as the ‘floor.’ However, this won’t make the particles pile up on one another. To accomplish that look you may need to use multiple instances of the Particular effect each using a different ‘floor’ layer.

[DanielHaskett] “2. Im using the mesh tool to make the object move around and rotate, but when they toys fall they are all doing exactly the same mesh movements and rotations….is there like a way of offsetting them so that they are moving at different times….so it doesnt look so syncronized?”

Set the start time of the custom particle to ‘Begin at Random Frame and Loop’ (or something like that, I think it’s under the emitter properties, maybe particle).

[DanielHaskett] “3. Can you use motion blur with particular?”

Yes, look under the Motion Blur section, I recommend using subframe samples.

November 1, 2007 at 2:32 pm in reply to: particular camera “flattening”?

Well, if your comp is 2D then you probably don’t have a camera in there, so that’s a start.

The second thing you would need to do is make sure that if you’re using a box/sphere emitter that it’s Z-depth is 0.

The third thing is to use a non-uniform direction for your emitter (uniform sends particles flying out in all directions, including Z-space) and set the spread to 0% and the velocity randomness to 0%.

Then make sure your emitter isn’t pointing into Z-space and you should be good to go.

Obviously, having only 2 dimensions for your particles to exist in will limit what you can do with them.

November 1, 2007 at 2:28 pm in reply to: How do I use sine to oscillate a variable….

[Rutger] “if you don’t like the frequency which is 1 cycle per second, say you wanted 10 cycles per second, just change it to:

    1.5+1.5*Math.sin(Math.PI*10*time)”

Just a note, the period of sin(x) and cos(x) is 2 * Math.PI. So the frequency of the above expression is actually 5/second.

There are HDTV comp presets in AE. One of them is 24fps and one of them is 29.97.

October 31, 2007 at 5:44 pm in reply to: AE cs3 and leopard – what concrete problem?

[Mattyc] “They have a whole new OS upgrade once a year.”

I wouldn’t say “whole new.” Apple has had a ‘major’ updated more regularly than Windows, but they make a point of trying to maintain backwards compatibility as much as possible. Proof in point, AE and every other application I own has been working fine for me on Leopard. The only thing I’ve had to do thus far is update a driver for my Wacom tablet…

My bigger complaint is with any company (and this definitely includes Apple as well as Adobe) that is aware of some very specific issue(s) but refuses to let people know what it is.

October 31, 2007 at 3:48 pm in reply to: AE cs3 and leopard – what concrete problem?

[Rick Sebeck] “I heard that Apple didn’t release Leopard, even to deveopers, until right before the launch last friday. So if Adobe didn’t have a copy for the last 6 months, how do you expect them to write upgrades?”

Apple did not have a final release candidate until about 2 or 3 weeks before Leopard’s release. Which I don’t think is a great timetable, but that’s the fact of the matter. So NOBODY, including Apple, had the shipping version of Leopard until 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Prior to that, members of ADC (Apple Developer Connection) had access to the latest Leopard betas, which functioned primarily the same as the shipping version. A few more bells & whistles that were removed, and a few more bugs were squashed before launch, but not that much changes at the core of a product in the last stages of a development cycle.

Even my Wacom Tablet had a “works with 10.5 beta” driver available yesterday when I checked for it.

Me thinks maybe Adobe should visit https://developer.apple.com/ more often.
