    hi!

i’m trying to create an earth with a line chart diagram going around it. i’ve kind of got there by doing the following steps….

1 – adding cc sphere to my map layer
2 – making a solid that’s comp size, drawing the line chart as a mask and then using stroke
3 – adding cc sphere to this solid layer and having it set to outside
4 – duplicating this layer and putting it under the earth and setting cc sphere to inside

it all looks cool…that is until i need to move the camera in closer..then the line goes all pixelated and rubbish! i’ve checked the camera setting to make sure there ok.

i think it’s because i’m using stroke…is there a better way to do this?

The layer that gets turned into a sphere has to be really big, because it seems to shrink when it gets sphereized, and you’re moving in on it. How big? Try double or 4 times what it was.

This does not apply directly to your pixelation question, but if your ‘line chart’ doesn’t consist of much more than longitude and latitude you could use the Generate > Grid effect and tweak the settings.

As for the pixelation issue, you might look into foregoing my previous suggestion and creating your grid/line chart in Adobe Illustrator. Then when you import it click the ‘Continously Rasterize’ layer switch (it looks like a sun) and the lines should remain sharp at all scales.

thanks for getting back to me.

i tried making the line chart 4 times the size of my comp but it still pixelates.

Also unfortunately the grid option wont work as i need the line to randomly go up and down.

So i guess I’ll try illustrator (even though i’ve never used it before – eek!) and see where i get and let you guys know.

    Thanks
