Thanks a lot for the fast response! Quick question, where does FCP save the stills cache? Is that the same as the Obj Cache or the Thumbnail Cache?

That’s what I have been using for my own titles, but unfortunately I’m an AE for about 35 editors who use a combo of the two, so I need to figure out why machine is crashing to work on their projects.

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for the quick respone. I tried repairing permissions but it doesn’t seem to have fixed the crash problem. We use livetype for some of our facier text, but for quick slates, ect the built in text feature works just fine.

Hey, found one possible way to do it. A company called Magma makes PCI break out boxes that hook up to a laptops expresscard slot.

We haven’t tried it out yet, but looks like it should work.

    Hey Rafael,

Thanks a lot for the response! Unfortunately I am still seeing the problem when the clip in nested. I’ve tried putting the clip into a new sequence, using the Nest Item(s) command, and applying the speed change to the new sequence and the clip inside it. Is there something that I’m missing?

    Thanks,

  • If you have upgraded to FCP 6.0.2, this is from the release notes

Holding Down the Shift Key Forces Final Cut Pro to Open with an Empty Project

If you hold down the Shift key when you open Final Cut Pro, you can override the “Open last project on application launch” option in the General tab of the User Preferences window. Overriding this option forces Final Cut Pro to create an empty project instead of opening the project that was open the last time you used Final Cut Pro.

Haven’t tried it yet, but would be interested to know if it does in fact work.

  • If you have the storage space I might try using media manager to copy everything off of the drive that you have to return to another space. Not sure if this would work or if it’s a long term fix, but it might get you past the point where you have to return the drive.

Actually, on speed changes using the motion blur (the one under the motion tab in the viewer) blurs motion within the video itself.

    Here is a quick comparison.

Yes, you can media manage a sequence without the media online. For shows that we send to online where the media is going to be redigitized we actually media managed it with the media offline. Here is the settings we use.

In media manager have it Create Offline clips then click Deleted unused media from duplicated sequence and click Use Handles (then select how long you want the handles to be). We usually uncheck everything else except Duplicated selected sequence and place in a new project.

This will created a new project with your sequence in it and a batch capture of this will bring in just the media in the sequence plus handles.
