March 13, 2008 at 1:36 am in reply to: Prores422 vs. DVCPRO50 SD Smackdown preliminary resultsThat’s what you got out of his post? And your only comment is
he didn’t say Pro Res correctly? Wow.The guy did some great sloothing.
His tests will help me determine why I’ve been having some issues with the
DVCPRO50 codec vs my work in uncompressed and DVCPROHD.Thanks Cory.

I’m seeing this issue too. AJA DVCPRO HD captured clips dropped into
compressor to make h.264 for uploading etc., and want to do a TC burn.
Timecode is off on these encoded clips while FCP and Quicktime player show
correct timecode.Dan

That’s a good idea Walter.
I also just did what I should have done before posting, a google search.
Came up with an answer from this forum from 2002 🙂
It said try the wipe transition and setting it for 50% on each side. That worked too
but I can’t have a border, just the feather thing, which I can live with.I’m still not conditioned to “google” before I ask anyone anything.
Too old I guess.Dan

January 21, 2008 at 6:58 am in reply to: Creating Online… Drop Frames, Non-drop Frames, Clips being captured twice… ahhhhh! If the stuff is shot DV, which it is if it’s that camera,
the storage needed for DV is very low. Why do the “other” editors
not capture and edit DV native? Then all you would do is literally import their
captured files. Then no uprez or recapturing necessary.FCP is lousy with the uprez process. If you don’t need to go through it, don’t.
Why do things the AVID way?As far as capturing the clips twice, many times this has to do with audio.
And since FCP isn’t smart enough to know to turn off the video when all it needs
is the audio, it captures the clip twice, because you needed a few seconds
from the middle of it that you didn’t need during the actual video. The timecode thing is unusual.
When the clips are being captured by the 8 other editors,
how are they all doing that? Are they using the same deck,
the same FCP workstation, the same capture card (if any)
and the same settings and codec on capture?Dan

We’ll check out the timecode options on Monday.
Just a relief to know we are on the right track.Dan

January 12, 2008 at 4:38 am in reply to: FCP under Leopard, is it good to go? – I tested it under fire – here’s my opinionFCP itself has run without any crashes for weeks under Leopard. However,
my problem is after the update Qmaster doesn’t work anymore. You can’t
access it from the Apple System prefs or make it work. I really need it
so I’m working with our VAR to talk to Apple to see what I need to do.
Other than that hiccup, it’s been fine.Dan

I just put in a tape I knew was 24p and did what you said and see what you are
talking about. GOOD. Now the tape I wasn’t sure of although we thought
it was 30p, turns out to be 30p. No duplicate frames.
Also I did something else. I captured the tape two ways,
at 23.98 and at 59.94 (KONA3 DVCPRO HD Varicam).
The 30p capture, the audio was in sync.
The 24p capture, the audio got progressively off.But it sure would be nice if on the front of the Panny 1400
it told me which it was.Dan

January 7, 2008 at 9:40 pm in reply to: Question about a transition effect I’m seeing a lotThank everyone. I downloaded Nattress and bought it.
It does just what I need for $100. Knoll looks interesting too but I’d already
bought the Nattress by the time that post came up. Plus I’ve used Nattress
Film Effects and had good success with it.Thanks. Love the forum.
