  • Question about a transition effect I’m seeing a lot

Posted by Dan Riley on January 7, 2008 at 8:16 pm

It starts as a small ball of light and it moves across the screen
to fill the frame so you can do the cut under it, then goes off the other way.
I see this a lot but don’t know which software it’s from.
Since it’s all over the place I’m thinking it’s an included effect in Boris or
Motion or maybe someone sells it as a plug in.
Does anyone know what I’m talking about?

    Thanks,
    Dan

    Sounds like a lens flare.

Yes, sounds like a lens flare, for FCP there’s a really good one in Natress Big Box of Tricks.

    Have a wonderful day.

The “mother of all lens flares” is Knoll Light Factory, from Red Giant. They have a demo. You’d add your lens flare to a piece of slug on top, and either make a cut or simple dissolve underneath it.

Thank everyone. I downloaded Nattress and bought it.
It does just what I need for $100. Knoll looks interesting too but I’d already
bought the Nattress by the time that post came up. Plus I’ve used Nattress
Film Effects and had good success with it.

    Thanks. Love the forum.
