We’ve got video in via HDSDI from the Panny 1400 deck. We have deck control.
We can capture 720p23.98. We’re using the DNx90 codec.
But when we put a captured clip on the timeline,
the timecode does not stop at 24 frames, it still shows 0 to 30 frames in the
timecode. However IT IS skipping frames in the timecode as you step ahead
so it probably is showing only 24 frames a second.
This is different from my FCP timeline where I actually have 0 to 24 frames
    in my 23.98 timeline.
So I wanted to ask, are we doing it right on the AVID?

    Thanks,
    Dan

Yes you are doing it right. The 30fps with skipped frames reflects exactly the source tape which is a 60 frame format controlled by 30fps timecode (- the .1% of course). The START always reflects the source used to capture. If you want 0-24 timecode, highlight the START and do a cmd-D or ctrl-D and select TC24 from the pop up dialog box. The TC24 column will now show you its frame accurate conversion from 30 to 24 based on the pulldown relationship to the original timecode. Avid will now track both timecodes as needed and display above the monitor. The same can be repeated for 25fps, 25 with pulldown, 30fps with no pulldown, etc.

    Thanks Michael.
We’ll check out the timecode options on Monday.
Just a relief to know we are on the right track.
