“Unfortunately, Resolve doesn’t currently support the DNxHD Quicktime codec, so that isn’t an option.”

I am able to render DNxHD in a variety of resolutions using Resolve, its an added cost to purchase the codec disk ($500 in Sydney) but it will do it.
I have successfully created a series of graded (one light) MXF files from Alexa Pro Res QT using Resolve for import into Avid.

If this is the first stage of the process you just treat it like any other rushes footage.

I can then use the AAF from Avid after the cut to conform and grade as normal and then send the graded footage back to Avid for relinking using the same project/AAF, just need to make sure ALL information is kept in the rendered files.

    Good luck.

August 25, 2011 at 3:02 am in reply to: phantom flex cine files to dpx workflow

I thought the Phantom .cine files were supported raw on the last couple of versions of Resolve??
Drop the files in and see what happens??

Previous to the support I used Gluetools to get the best picture and all the Metadata, but the payoff was that it took forever to convert them all!

At the time I couldn’t find anything else that would give me a good quality image.

I have one at home (50″) and one as a client monitor (58″). They are amazing monitors and reasonably priced.

    Go for it!!

Don’t forget this skin tone only works if you key rest of picture increase saturation 50% or more then change hue to heavy Cyan!

August 15, 2011 at 6:44 am in reply to: HDRx workflow… How to?

Its good to get a nice balance in the first image before you mix the images, also if you pull a key only do it in one of the nodes. Then after the layer mixer have a play with keys and effects with both nodes already blended.

    Good luck.

August 1, 2011 at 12:30 am in reply to: Dual Quadro 4000’s

I am using 2 4000’s in a cubix and I get an Alexa Pro Res to dpx render at anywhere between 50&70Fps.

Pro Res to Pro Res about 80fps and all DNxHD renders at around 25-30fps.

July 29, 2011 at 12:59 am in reply to: How to fix one mess of a project?

It is correct that its only a single frame rate per project.

I would create a new project for each frame rate (if you didn’t want to go down the single QT path – which would be the most “cost effective” way of doing it). Make sure the offline is available in each set to play through gaps so you have a constant reference then send all your renders back to FCP for reconform, sounds like it has to go back there anyway.

July 29, 2011 at 12:55 am in reply to: “Wunderbaum” – Grading techniques

While Sascha’s node tree looks fairly complicated for most grades its really nothing compared to Jakes image.

    You seriously work like that?!

“Just look the pictures of nodes and layers and judge for yourself, which one would you rather use?:-)”

Thats not a serious question right??

When did colour grading become a series of numbers and lists that need to be deciphered? Totally takes all the fun away……..

The nodes take almost no time at all to get used to and for most grades you’d probably never need the complexity of Sascha’s structure, although it obviously works for him. Day to day stuff you’d remove half of that structure for the same result, and as he says this covers everything he needs and then winds it back by disabling accordingly.

  • Yeah right I just realised its the PVM not the BVM!

The one I was talking about is the BVM (30k ish). However according to Sony its the same tech in the OLED display I just think they took away some of the features.
