Skin tone check
Posted by Ramesh Jai on August 21, 2011 at 1:28 pmIs there a skin tone checker in Resolve as in Colorista? Any orher way to check if skin tone is correct besides the scopes? Thanks in advance.

Colorista !! OMG, dude.
I mean, a skintone should always reflect the lighting in the room, the interaction with the atmosphere and of course and most important, Not stand out like a puppet mask (Michael Bay) .
So I got my skintone checker right above my nose.
It needs to look good, not have a certain color value.A slice of color…

August 21, 2011 at 4:12 pmwell said Sascha!
I had a show last week where a subject was standing about 4 feet from a green neon sign and the client was like his skin tone doesn’t match the previous scene. Of course it didn’t! The whole perfect skin tone thing drives me a little bonkers because there is no such thing and as you point out the illuminant in the scene should be the main diving factor. The flesh tone line that everyone is always trying to get trace right on is not a hard and fast rule but rather a target, some people are a little more red, some people a little more yellow.

Producer asked me why is this taking so long.
You have computer and there you have probably 2 buttons.
1. make and 2. beautiful. See that does not take so long just press 1 and 2.It is a bit same here. Make beautiful.
I agree with Sascha that you do not have ever hardly clean skin tones.

August 21, 2011 at 5:32 pmI would have added to this:
U grade order to look good in the whole scene, not a single shot – sometimes green, sometimes orange – it only determines the light in terms of shot.DaVinci 8.0.1 OS X 10.7

August 21, 2011 at 6:10 pmAnd here two examples of what they mean when talking about “natural healthy looking ” skintones :
https://www.imdb.com/media/rm3594424064/tt0418279
https://www.imdb.com/media/rm3242102528/tt0418279Which in fact is keying the skintones out, desaturating 50% or more and then pushing it to orange.
As natural as Pam´s rack 😀

August 21, 2011 at 6:18 pmSo the short answer is no..? I just wanted a simple answer. I’m aware of the skin tone looking different under different conditions but thanks anyways. Your answers will help me explain varying skin tones to my clients. Regards.

August 22, 2011 at 6:22 amDon’t forget this skin tone only works if you key rest of picture increase saturation 50% or more then change hue to heavy Cyan!
