  • Another great tip John. I always thought wmv renders lost contrast and used color curves to get it back. I’ll try your method next time I make one. Thanks

  • HMM, I use the Shuttle with 8c, render as mpeg for Roku, brightsign mini servers, Alcorm Binloop multichannel servers with no problems. Using Win 7 though.

AE is pretty much a standard for effects, especially since so many 3rd party plugins are available for it. No problems with Vegas and AE either that I know of.

I just tried it and Vegas doesn’t recognise the alpha channel automaticlly. Right click on the new uncompressed w/alpha corner bug video event on the top track of the timeline and click, Properties, and switch the alpha channel to “Straight (unmatted). Now everything but the bug is transparent.

I would render the logo cornerbug project as uncompressed avi with alpha, in the same resolution as your project. Make sure there are no video tracks below the logo track. The video will have the logo in the corner or where you put it and everything else will be transparent. Then just put this video on the top track of future projects. You can make this video as short as you want since you can just drag the edge to fill to the length of your final video.

    Hope this helps, Danny Hays

I have the Shuttle and nowhere in the software or manual mentions 3D video. Why do you need to capture via HDMI? You can get the 3D videos off with the USB cable.

You could do that, but his post and picture shows he’s using stills, and you would have to do that for every still on the timeline.

Large files from a USB 2 drive can be an I/O problem, but I wouldn’t think it would crash your system. Is Vegas crashing or is Windows? What are your project settings and what format are you rendering to? \To rule out the USB 2 I/O speed, copy a few files to your C drive and see if it crashes.

FCP will not edit the native .mts 1080 60p files. But Sony Vegas Pro 8 and up, CS5’s Premier and After Effects will and all 3 can render to 1080 60p mp4,and .WMV. The TM700 files are defently 1080 60p, reguardles of compression. There are no project or render presets for 1080 60p in any of these programs. You will need to make custom project and render settings for all 3 of them. With any of the NLEs I mentioned, I can Put an .mts file on the timeline with a custom project setting and see 60 perfect progressive frames per second.
As far as the proffesional 2K or 4K servers/editors, DVS makes several servers but they work with frame sequences containing .DPS or .TGA files, and range from 60 grand for a 2K to 125 grand for a 4K 60P server.

Your stills are not 16 x 9 aspect ratio. Rather than using event pan/crop for each still to crop of some of the top and or bottom to make it fill the screen, use the track motion, with the curser at the beginning as to not create a keframe in the middle somewhere, increase the size until the image fills the screen. Again you will lose some of the top and bottom but you can drag the image up or down if there’s something at the top or bottom you don’t want cropped off. If your not concerned about streaching it wider to fit, de-select maintain aspect ratio in the Track Motion window. Your images will be strached to fit the width but you won’t lose any off the top or bottom with this method. Hope this helps, Danny Hays
