Copy/Paste between projects (?)
Posted by Kelly Griffin on March 5, 2011 at 1:03 amI have a sized, positioned logo bug with a glow on it that I’d like to use the same in two projects. I thought I could just select the event, copy it, open another project and paste the event, but “paste” is grayed out. I’ve tried the Help index and searching for this, but I only see copy/paste within the same project. How do I do it? Thanks!

March 5, 2011 at 3:21 amWhat version of Vegas are you using?
Having you tried dragging and dropping between two open projects?
You can also drag the 1st project veg file in Vegas’s explorer tab to the timeline of the 2nd project
Intel i7 920, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10 (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

March 5, 2011 at 4:03 amI did this just today. Just open two instances of Vegas. On the destination target, create a blank video track. On the source, right-click copy the event you want o copy, then on the destination, right-click paste on the new video track.

March 5, 2011 at 6:50 amIs it that the Open 2 Instances, has to happen before the Copy option is executed from the First Instance?

March 5, 2011 at 5:31 pmYou can also hold the ctnl key and drag an event from one instance of Vegas to another. Hope this helps, Danny Hays

March 5, 2011 at 6:32 pmIf this is something you might want to use in multiple projects and you are using Vegas Pro, I agree with Nigel that creating a project with just this logo exactly the way you like it and then nesting that in any other project you need it in is the best way to approach this. Dropping a project into another and it will behave just like any other piece of media. This only works in Vegas Pro, not Vegas Movie Studio.

March 5, 2011 at 11:56 pmThanks, but it only “kinda” worked… I have a graphic with pan/crop settings and track motion settings. It evidently pasted the pan/crop stuff but not the track motion stuff. Any ideas?

Track Motion will never paste. You want to use a nested project for this.

March 6, 2011 at 12:17 amOkay, I tried the nesting projects thing and Vegas Pro just locked up. I’m guessing it’s newbie cockpit error… Is there a certain place on the timeline to drag the project (that contains the pieces in it I want)? Also, you mentioned that track motion settings don’t copy; I also tried noting those settings and just manually typing them in– that didn’t do anything either.
With any luck I’ll get hit by a bus before my deadline…

March 6, 2011 at 12:32 amI would render the logo cornerbug project as uncompressed avi with alpha, in the same resolution as your project. Make sure there are no video tracks below the logo track. The video will have the logo in the corner or where you put it and everything else will be transparent. Then just put this video on the top track of future projects. You can make this video as short as you want since you can just drag the edge to fill to the length of your final video.
Hope this helps, Danny Hays
