Put the text on the top track, Use generate media, pic a color (blue) and resize and position on track two for the solid color behind the text, and position with track motion. Then put the video on track three.

It looks like his curser is on the first frame after the black bagkground, and where is the small visable text on the text that we should see on the text event, on the timeline???

Your screen shot is cutting off the arrow buttons on the right bottom of the timeline, but this is where you can make the tracks taller, (thicker) and the scroll wheel on your mouse zooms in to make them longer as well as the arrows on the bottom right.

My friend has a six core with Vegas Pro 10 and it performs fairly close to my i7.

You could also use event pan and crop to crop off the two sides you don’t want, and stay in Vegas.

You can uncheck “Maintain aspect ratio” and do it, but the players will look thinner.

Also if you wanted to make two mono tracks from a stereo, just copy the event to another track and using the same method select left for one and right for the other.

Can you tear of the text generator from the dock so we can see all the parameters? You should also see the text in the checkerboard area of your text track and I don’t see it.
