If your going to import the rendered video into Vegas, I would not use quicktime but use the uncompressed AVI which will also be a huge file. If you have the Canopus HD codec or the Cineform codec, these will do very well in Vegas and will be considerably smaller in file size. Danny Hays

    Hi Douglas.
Do you happen to know the keyboard shortcut for full screen preview on a single monitor system with Vegas 8? I know it’s a 3 key shortcut but cannot remember. thanks Danny Hays

Select view, video preview. If thats already checked, you may have it hidden by other tabs. In the uper left corner of each tab are some dots where you can drag a window off the tab area. or resize the other tabs until you can see the video preview tab again. If this doesn’t work post a screen shot for us to see. Danny Hays

Hold the alt key and press the print screen key. This will copy the highlighted window (Vegas in your case) to the clipboard. Then open paint and past it in. Save it as a jpeg and post it. Danny Hays

If it’s doing it with a new project, I would try system restore to a point before it started. Danny Hays

The two are not the same. The Event pan and crop can crop the video and you can keyframe in animation of what your cropping. The track one can resize the whole tracks video, and by enlarging it makes it look like your cropping it but your really making it bigger that the preview window which looks the same as cropping and can be used to crop. But when you shrink it you get the picture in picture effect. You need to play with both a little to figure it out as it’s a little confusing at first. Danny Hays

Have you tried opening a new project and importing video? This will tell if you have a setting wrong in your current project. Danny Hays

I believe it’s called Ram preview and it allows you to preview small sections as if they were rendered. I don’t think After Effects will preview the whole timeline at rendered quality, or at least my computers won’t do it. Danny Hays

Event pan and crop only works on the event you do it in. You can make a preset for that crop and then apply it to each event one at a time. You can try the track pan and crop which effects all the events in the track. You can make the video larger which will crop off the edges but you cant crop and shrink it for picture in picture with this method. Danny Hays
