  • Effects effect entire track – how to isolate?

Posted by Helen Glaze on July 6, 2008 at 4:22 pm

I’m trying to put together a first birthday video for my son and having some difficulties. whenever I put an effect on a track, it effects all of the footage/pictures on the rest of that particular track. So, I’ve got animated 3d glow on the beginning of one video track and everything after that has animated 3d glow. Or if I’ve resized something toward the end of a track, everything else is resized.

Is there a way to isolate a section of a track so that only that segment is effected?

    Thanks, Helen

Yes. There is an event effect icon on the right side of each event where you can add an effect to just that event and not the whole track. You can also right click anywhere in an event and click effects to get to the same effects window. Danny Hays

Aaah, I get it. so if I change something using the control panel on the right, it changes the entire track. But if I right click on the event, and edit this way, then it only changes the event I’m looking at. so, next question – many of the changes I’ve made, I’ve used the “track motion” control on the left hand control panel. This is how I’ve resized a lot of photos and created and animated some 3d glows. I can’t find this option on the “event only” controls, but can only find this option on the left panel. what am I missing?

The two are not the same. The Event pan and crop can crop the video and you can keyframe in animation of what your cropping. The track one can resize the whole tracks video, and by enlarging it makes it look like your cropping it but your really making it bigger that the preview window which looks the same as cropping and can be used to crop. But when you shrink it you get the picture in picture effect. You need to play with both a little to figure it out as it’s a little confusing at first. Danny Hays

Thanks Danny, this helps. I will continue to play with it.

Does your response mean that once I apply changes in “track motion”, it will effect an entire track and there is no way to apply the same types of changes ONLY to a single event on a track?

If that’s the case, is there any way to get 3d glow aside from track motion?
