    Hello…

Im stumped at what happened with my vegas… I have been using it for about a year now with no problems…

Tonight when half way through editing i went to playback and watch in my preview window and it was completely black… I can see the bar moving through my scenes, and i can see sound in the audio indicating there is media there but there is nothing in the window… The only way i can see something is if i select a single scene and open it up in the trimmer…

I had a look through the obvious settings which did not help, all i can see is the different shading between the video tracks and audio tracks… the video is darker wich says to me its highlighted for some reason and it was never like that before, trouble is i dont know how to get it back!

Make sure the “Split Screen View” (top left of the Preview window – looks like a shaded circle) is set to “FX Bypassed” and not “Clipboard”.

Could it be that you pressed the MUTE button for the video track? Or if you have multiple video tracks and all are dark then maybe you pressed the SOLO button for a video track without video? Maybe post a screen shot for us to look at?

As John said maybe you have the mute or solo button pressed…check
each video track buttons to make sure.

Have you tried opening a new project and importing video? This will tell if you have a setting wrong in your current project. Danny Hays

Yes i do think the clip has been muted somehow, but i cant see how to un mute it… the only other clue i have is that the cursor turns into a cross when i hover it over the preview window…

The mute button is the ‘little circle with a slant inside’ on the left
of each video track where all the little buttons gather.
And the solo button is an exclamation sign right beside it…
press to enable:press again to disable….when either is enabled it has a shaded sunken look.

Or make sure the compositing mode button…same place…is set
to “source alpha”, if problem persist.

But make sure the video clips you have on the timeline is not corrupt, play them in a media player to make sure they are ok.
    ….Just covering all the bases.

Ah…i must sound like an fool… I have located the mute, composition buttons etc… they were hidden as my video tracks took up all of the screen.. however these were all ok, no help there… also i imported video into a new project and it did the same there too…

Strange… I am using vegas 7… the only other variable i have is i was cutting and pasting when this change happened, still, i cant find a solution to reverse what happened.

If it’s doing it with a new project, I would try system restore to a point before it started. Danny Hays

System restore was no help either… Im stumpted… I even opened an old project and it did the same… Im sure its a setting but i just cant see what… i can hear the track fine but just cant see it, can you edit in the trimmer at all, maybe ill have to get use to doing that.

what does the cross mean in the previe window? by that i mean, what does it mean when the mouse cursor turns into a cross or + sign when i hover over the preview window?
