Another option is to use the audio only for the clips without the green background and use other video or screen shot pics, what ever you have thats relevent to the movie for the background for those sections. I really love Sony Vegas but the chromakeyer isn’t very good. If your shooting DV, try putting a chromablur, set to medium before the chromakey pluggin in the chain. It really helps minimize the jagged edges commonly found when keying DV footage due to the 4.1.1 color space. check out this video on this subject on my You Tube channel. Most of my vids we’re shot in front of a green screen but with an HDV camera. I didn’t use Vegas for the chromakeying, I used Ultra 2.

If the audio has already been recorded then the room noise has also been recorded. A way to minimize that effect is to add a dynamic range expander plugin to make the voice louder and the room noise quieter, then add some background music to coverup the room noise. I always try and get the mic as close to the source as possible to eliminate room noise, as well as sound proofing foam, blankets, closets with lots of clothes in it, what ever you have. Also light your son according to the background to help it look more realistic. Also put as much room between your son and the green screen and use back lighting to reduce spill. In my opinion, the lack of spill supression in the Vegas chromakeyer pluggin is one of Vegas’s biggest weaknesses. If your shooting DV, try putting a chroma blur set to medium before the chroma key pluggin in the effect chain. This helps with the jaggy edges you get with DV footage. If you have already captured to tape then John is correct. However if you have component out on your camera, plug it into your HDTV live from the cameras sensor, without a tape and the quality is better than through firewire, because it has not been compressed to m2t yet. Black Magic makes a capture card called Intensity pro
That can capture uncompressed component straight from the sensor. You will need a PCI express slot and XP Pro to use that card I believe.

Apearantly Vegas doesn’t like that flavor of Mpeg 4, which is just a wrapper. Did the camcorder come with a program to convert the files to something easier to edit?

I just googled that model camera and found no such camera. If it’s a USB camera, it should just show up as a hard drive where you can copy the files to your computer. If it’s a firewire camera, you can capture with Vegas capture,under file. Danny Hays

Just another tip, you can search your whole computer for veg or bak files by search, *.veg or *.bak. Did you try restoring your computer to the last known saved veg file with windows restore? Danny Hays
