I just googled that model camera and found no such camera. If it’s a USB camera, it should just show up as a hard drive where you can copy the files to your computer. If it’s a firewire camera, you can capture with Vegas capture, under file. Danny Hays

Here’s the scoop on my editor
    I’m running Vegas pro8 on a windows XP 64bit

I demoed a JVC GY-HM700 Here’s the link https://pro.jvc.com/prof/attributes/features.jsp?model_id=MDL101851&feature_id=01 and recorded in the SD format to a 16gig SDHC card. This plays back in final cut pro but for me to play it back JVC sys I need to use Calibrated{Q} XD Decode https://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QXD.asp witch does let me watch it in the quick time viewern but their site will not let me order it yet so I don’t know how much it will cost.

Is there a better way to down load into vegas snd not have to buy this add on?

I should’ve done more in-depth research before purchasing a demo 700. Since I’d imported MOV and MP4 into Vegas 10 previously, I figured this would just make things easier. Costly mistake.

I’ve not been able to use any of my footage so far. One of the threads I read recommended using a converter at iOrgSoft.com. Well, they got my $41 two days ago, and I still can’t use the license code to unlock the converter I downloaded from them. No response from them, even after repeated emails.

While the HM700 is a pretty cam with pretty pictures, it appears to be a very focused marketing attempt to grab FCP editors, even to the exclusion of everyone else. So far, I’m extremely frustrated and disappointed.

Tim, I took delivery of an HM700 a few weeks ago and I love it.
I made many of the same mistakes as you did so I’ll do my best to help you work through your issues.

First of all, if it’s not too late, please try to get a refund on that converter program as it’s not needed.
The only additional software you need is XDCAM EX ClipBrowser and it’s free.
It’s purpose is to re-wrap the MP4 files into MXF format for ease of use in Vegas.
Download and install this program on your computer.

Using this camera with Vegas means that you’ll be recording to MP4 format unless you’re giving it to a Mac user in which case record to QuickTime.

Plug an SDHC card into a card reader and into your computer.
    Start XDCAM EX ClipBrowser.
In the Explorer window in the top left, browse to your card reader and start going into the card as shown below.

Now that your clips are visible in the window, it’s time to convert them to MXF.
Right-click the desired clip and choose “Export – MXF for NLEs”.

In the next window, choose the location for the converted file.

    Repeat as required.
If you want to back up your video to an external hard drive, copy the contents of the entire card to a properly named project folder.

BTW, Whats a good reason to keep Bpav folders after exporting to MXF? here on the Cow is a great thread on why you want to keep the entire folder.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I’ll do my best to help you out.
