You can also just butt them up next to each other on the timeline, selct both by holding down the control key, then hit the “G” key to lock them together. When you move one, the other will move with it, even the accociated audio, and you don’t have to render. Danny Hays

I agree. I have a 1920 x 1080 60p camera and Vegas will edit these native .mts files with a costum project preset and render presets. I can even render a 1080 60p mp4 and .WMV with it, It’s just shy of the quality of the same in .WMV files. The MP4s are not quite as smooth during playback. They speed up and slowdown just a tiny bit where the 60p .WMV dont. CS5 After Effects can do this a well, but the learning curve there is alot steaper than Vegas. Danny Hays

The TM700 does have component as well as composite SD and S-video with analog stereo audio out, but it doesn’t have lanc for external control, just a remote control. To bad as it has a 5.1 mic built in that would give you some good crowd audio and if you set the Vegas project settings audio to 5.1 and drop in the native .mts file on the timeline, all of the 5.1 audio tracks show up as well as the video. I do wish it had the ilink or lanc ext. control as well as phanton power XLR like my Sony but I don’t use the audio from the camera normaly either. I use another computer with Protools for that and use the camera waveform to sync it up, then mute the camera audio. If you go with the Blackmagic Intensity card or Shuttle, defently do the research as the two main Blackmagic forums show more people can’t get them to work right or at all. I had the luxury of my work buying one first and I did my homework and got the Shuttle working the first day, then bought one and bult an i7 just for it. One very important thing about the intensity cards is the source rez and framerate must match the capture settings or it won’t capture video. It’s kind of missleading as the outputs show video when you input video even if they’re not the same rez and framerate, but it won’t capture it.

I have a Sony HVR-A1 as well as the Intensity Shuttle. I can capture MJPEG straight from the imager and bypass the HDV compression and get 4.2.2 color space instead of 4.2.0. The quality is better than capturing via firewire. Blackmagic is very specific on the Express slot the Intensity pro will wirk with as well as the speed of the computer. The Shuttle needs a X58 or X55 chipset as well as USB 3 on the motherboard for it to work. But even with MJPEG, it’s still 1440 x 1080 interlaced as thats what the imager puts out of it’s component out. I just bought a Panasonc HDC-TM700 for $765 and it shoots 1920 x 1080 60p and WAY better in low light than the Sony. If I had seen the TM700 quality before I bought the Shuttle, I wouldn’t have bought it. The TM700 quality is so far superior than the Sony, that I may never use it or the Shuttle again unless I need a second camera. Granted $765 is more tha the $199 for the Intensity but I could probably sell the Sony for $1500 as it’s in perfect condition and buy two TM700s. Do yourself a favor. buy a HDMI mini to HDMI standard cable if you don’t have one, (the TM700 doesn’t come with it) and go to best buy as they sell the TM700 and convince them to let you connect it to a 1920 x 1080P HDTV, set to HDMI out on the TM700 to 1080p and see the quality this thing puts out. I promise you you’ll thank me and go with getting new cameras, not from Best buy as they are $899 when they’re on sale. B&H Photo sells them for $769. Oh yea, With the intensity card or shuttle, you have to have a quad core i7 for each camera where the TM700 comes with 32gig internal storage, enough to capture 2 hours and 40 minuts of 1920 x 1080 60p. Research the TM700 on youtube and see for yourself, this thing will amaze you. Hope this helps, Danny Hays, Universal Studios A/V dept FL.

I just got a Panasonic HDC-TM700 that shoots 1920 x 1080 60P with 5.1 audio, makes a AVCHD .mts file. Vegas accepts these and show all 5.1 audio channels. Also it will render .mp4 and .wmv at the same framerate and rez. If in fact your source footage is AVCHD, and Vegas will edit it, why use Cineform?

Right, but if the original format is 24Mbps AVCHD, it looks like it is not possible to edit the video and then render back to the original format since Vegas does AVCHD via AVC file type and it only goes as high as 16 Mbps. So what is the best way to accomplish this? Thanks.
Mark, My original format files are .mts and I cannot find any render setting in Vegas that’ll make them. I bet Sony doesn’t make a camera that uses that format like Panasonic. Out of curiosity, Why do you want to render to that? Bluray doesn’t support 1080 60p yet.

Dave, that is some good info. The manual for my TM700 says the original .mts 1080 60p files will only play from the camera via HDMI or with the HD Writer software software that came with the camera. I won’t load that on my i7 as I loaded it on another machine and it wouldn’t allow it to be seen as a hard drive when plugged in via USB but launched the HD Writer software that would only allow me to convert it and not just transfer the files to my computer. Beside the editor is very basic and I would never use it. My i7 has an nvidea card but without GPU acceleration. I built it before Vegas announced Ver 10 would use it where all previous versions were CPU based only. I have yet been able to find any thing that’ll play them on Windows 7. Do you know of a player that will do this for me on Windows 7 without an expensive nvideo GPU accelerated card?

Most computers won’t play back 1080i or p avchd files without some stuttering, so I render to .WMV at a high bitrate just for viewing on a computer connected to an HDTV. vegas can even render my 1920 x 1080 60p to the same in .WMV format at 25mps and My i7 plays them plays them back smooth, and they look fantastic.

You can always render it into two halves, if it will do that. AVI isn’t your final playback format is it?
