Pro 10 rendering options
Posted by Jason Dunlap on October 20, 2010 at 11:45 pmI have upgraded from platinum 9 to pro 10. I only use vegas to make highlight videos for my high school football team, therefore, I really dont know what I am doing. I am trying to figure out what type of file I should render my 1080 AVCHD files to so that they will play in any computer or DVD player. I want to render them in the highest quality possible but want to make sure that everyone can play them.
Not sure what other specs you would need. Please help and thank you in advance

October 21, 2010 at 3:17 amIf you want your video to play on any computer, you should use sony AVC , 1080-50i(or 60i depending on your country) template to keep the best quality.
If you want your video to be played on DVD player you should render as MPEG2 – dvd template, then use DVD architect to author your DVD. -

October 21, 2010 at 10:45 amHow much of a difference does it make if I do not use architect to burn it? Should I render in avi or wmv, or another type? Thank you for your help!

You said that you have vegas pro 10, so you should have DVD architect as well and why not using it. But if you want to use another authoring software to create your menu and burn yr DVD, it’s up to you.
It seems that you want to play your video on computer AND dvd player.
1- playing on computer: You can render in most format, up to you, either wmv, avi, mpg, mov, avc, etc…
2- Playing on DVD player: you have only 1 choice. Render using mainconcept-MPEG2 NTSC DVD architect template for the video, and AC3 file for the audio. But what’s the resolution of your original footage?

October 22, 2010 at 3:23 amMost computers won’t play back 1080i or p avchd files without some stuttering, so I render to .WMV at a high bitrate just for viewing on a computer connected to an HDTV. vegas can even render my 1920 x 1080 60p to the same in .WMV format at 25mps and My i7 plays them plays them back smooth, and they look fantastic.

It is 1080i AVCHD. I have a sony hdr-11 camcorder.

October 29, 2010 at 2:25 amEveryone can play them is a tall order. Many folks with netbooks are limited to NTSC DV, myself included.
Render WMV and load them to Youtube. Youtube parses your upload into different resolutions quite nicely taking care of the everyone issue elegantly. You can link videos if you go over the 15-minute limit. I have settled on the 6.4 mps template within 8.0c as it does a nice job and is tailored for streaming.
Use HQ MPEG2 if you want the highest quality and compatibility accross platforms.
Cheers,
Bill
