I am suprized you not using the USB 3 ports that come on that MB. If your capturing HDV, Balckmagic makes a nice capture device called the Shuttle. I have one as well as the premuim ver of your MB and it works great. Your MB has the X58 chipset and the high bandwidth USB 3 port needed to support the Shuttle. The Shuttle has all four video outputs playing your video at the same time. that’s HDMI, Component 1090 x 1080, S video and composite leaving my two computer monitors free for other things. It also has a hardware upconveter that upcomverts SD to HD while capturing that works pretty well I must say. It also has HDMI, component, s video and compsite inputs as well that’ll capture any analog video you may need to digitize. I can capture straight from the Sony HVR-A1 camera imager via component as MJPEG, 8 and 10 uncompressed and bypass the HDV compression and it was only $189.99. Sony Vegas sees the Shuttle as a secondary monitor. Also USB 3 drives are not much more than USB 2 but are much faster. Hope this helps, Danny Hays

Try and fail? This pluggin controls work while playing, so you can sweep the freq until you hear it. There are noise filters you can buy for Vegas that sample the noise alone, as you say you have and remove just that noise alone I’m sure. I still haven’t heard one that works as well as the one in Cool Edit 1. Yea that’s old but it works fantastic.

I don’t see any noise filters in the Sony Vegas audio pluggins. But if it’s a specific non varying pitch, you can notch it out like this. By default there are three audio pluggins in each audio track pluggin chain and one of them is this EQ. Take the third or fourth one and narrow the bandwidth as I did in the picture, then drag the frequency up or down until you find the noises frequency and it should dissapear. Hope this helps. You can sync them back up by dragging one until it lines up with the other perfectly at the beggining and end. Snap is turned on by default I think and it should snap in line with the other when you get them close. Then click one one, hold ctl and click the other so both are highlighted, and hit the g (group) key. Now they will be locked back together. You can unlock them the same way but hit the U (ungroup) key.

At the top of the preview window, there’s a split screen view button where you can turn this feature on and off. I would have thought it would be off by default when you installed the program. Maybe you bumped it with your elbow by mistake. HA! just kidding. My feeble attemt at being funny. Sorry.

Really? I didn’t know that. you’ve mentioned Boris keyer to me before and I watched a video tutorial on it. It looked like it did a great job, even wall shadows if I remember correctly. Does it do floor shadows? I want to do full body keyed shots and would need them for it to look real. You may have seen this tutorial on After Effects by Andrew Kramer, but this is what I want to do with my keyed shots. This tutorial is only using one virtual light but more can be used.

I want to make some music videos using this technic where I’m playing all the parts and have the shadows from each of me casted from the same light(s). Doing this in AE, even with GPU, would be very involved. If it does do floor shadows like this then I’m defenetly interested. Their site shows RED, BLUE, FX and Continuum. Can I purchace just the chromakey pluggin? By the way, I thought your video tutorial on BCC Extruded Text in Sony Vegas Pro 10 was great. Do you use Camtasia?

Then they had to have a transparent alpha channel already. Cool!

December 18, 2010 at 11:28 pm in reply to: BM Shuttle, Did everybody give up?

I have the Shuttle and love it. Best $200 I ever spent. I use it to bypass the HDV mpeg compression of my HDV camcorder, and having all four video outs outputting at the sametime is a great bonus. That’s 4 different monitors, Tvs to view my video on, leaving my two computer monitors free for other things. I did also have to built a new PC for it to work, but I wanted an i7 anyways. Luckly I saw the Shuttle specs and requierments before I built it, and played it safe with the Asus P6X58D-Premium MB. It has the X58 chipset and the req. bandwidth USB 3 port. I’m suprized on how little forum chatter on it there is too. Danny Hays

So, to clear things up for me, GPU only speeds up ACV renders in Vegas 10 right? No preview acceleration right? It really bugs me that Adobe can use GPU for preview. I saw a video for CS5 Premiere where someone put the newly added Ultrakey pluggin on a track and got realtime preview. I’m a vegas fan over Premier by far. I think Sony may have jumped the gun saying GPU support with Pro 10 when it’s so limited on how it helps. I hope Sony follows these forums and catches up.
