Sony Vegas Background noise
Alright so I have recently purchased the Canon EOS 550D / Rebel T2i. I know that I can use Audacity, or just hook up an external mic, but I want to do it in Vegas, and I’d like to use the microphone in the camera. As you might have already guessed, this is a background noise issue. There is a high pitched constant background noise.
I put the camera in a room with no sounds, set it to record, and held my breath. There is a very constant and uniform noise, which I’d like to remove. The question is, is there a way, in Vegas, to figure out which exact frequency this sound is on (considering I’ve got a clean audio file with this sound) and then remove that very frequency and nothing else?
And if so, how?

I don’t see any noise filters in the Sony Vegas audio pluggins. But if it’s a specific non varying pitch, you can notch it out like this. By default there are three audio pluggins in each audio track pluggin chain and one of them is this EQ. Take the third or fourth one and narrow the bandwidth as I did in the picture, then drag the frequency up or down until you find the noises frequency and it should dissapear. Hope this helps. Wow, thanks, that helped. But is there no way to figure out which frequency it is on, instead of try and fail? :S
Because, as I said, I have a clean audio file with only the background noise on. -
Try and fail? This pluggin controls work while playing, so you can sweep the freq until you hear it. There are noise filters you can buy for Vegas that sample the noise alone, as you say you have and remove just that noise alone I’m sure. I still haven’t heard one that works as well as the one in Cool Edit 1. Yea that’s old but it works fantastic.

Cool Edit 1? Never heard of it, but if it’s freeware I’ll most certainly try it 😉
