I agree that you should go with whatever software you are most comfortable with. In terms of PC vs Mac, keep in mind that you can use Premiere and Final Cut on a Mac; you’re stuck using Premiere (of the two options) on a PC.

I don’t see why people need to bash away at any NLE that works, regardless of their proficiency. I personally like Premiere the best, but have seen some amazing work done in FCPX and, of course, Avid. Who cares what software is used if the results are good? Some people take critiques of the software they use way too personally.

Hi Kate,
Although After Effects has some great color correction tools, you can actually do it in Premiere Pro as well. Unless you are doing effects and graphics, Premiere is probably the better tool for something like this.
If you’ve already done your corrections on this particular clip and don’t want to do them over in Premiere, you can do what’s called a RAM Preview to hear your audio in After Effects.
Adobe and others have some great videos on getting started with Adobe software, so make use of all the great (and free!) learning resources online.

Are you talking about preserving the aspect ratio of the clip? Shift+click should work in After Effects too. Or select your layer in the timeline and hit the “s” key to open the scale options, making sure the little chain-looking “constrain proportions” button is turned on.

That is kind of like telling a chef his food is really good, then asking what kind of pots and pans he used to make it. Tools are important, but the person using them matters more. Those videos could’ve been edited using any of the professional editing applications out there. Choose one you want to learn and start with the basics. Posting in the Adobe Premiere forum is a good start. 😉

Have you looked into XDCAM Browser? I’m not sure if it works in Yosemite…
Is there a reason you don’t just edit the files natively in Premiere?

Tested it on several different clips. Seems to work even better than Avid’s Fluid Morph in the early goings.
I was wondering if there is a suggested length for the transition, or at least guidelines on it. In Avid, I would range between 3 and 10 frames depending on the jump between clips. Does that seem reasonable for Premiere? I could obviously keep testing it, but not know the inner workings of the effect, I wasn’t sure if someone more knowledgeable had any thoughts.

Is your Anchor Point located where you want the rotation to originate? If you are trying to “fold” the vertical layer down on top of the other layer, you will want to use the Pan Behind tool (Y) to move the anchor point to the bottom of the layer.

It seems like changing the frame rate could be the issue. Your initial post described everything at 24fps, so I’m curious where the 30fps comp plays in to this. Could you give a few more details on your project? If you have a 30fps clip that you are interpreting as 24fps, it is going to be a little slower.
