Honestly, I don’t know the “correct” difference. I generally don’t go more than 2-5Mbps higher on the maximum, but don’t know if there is an optimum difference or anything.

The higher the bit rate, the more processing power it takes for a computer to play it back. When it is too high for a particular computer, you get the results you are seeing. If it is choppy, you should try a lower bit rate. Also, try making your max bit rate a little higher than your target bit rate. This could help making areas of motion or change in your video look better despite a lower overall bit rate. Definitely experiment on short clips to see what your playback computer can handle.

Online video hosts generally re-encode your file to various bit rates and play back which ever one will play smoothly based on the users internet connection.

You can add fractal noise to a new solid, play with the parameters, and change the blend mode. You can get some nice, metallic looking textures this way.

You need change your Mac keyboard preferences to use Standard Function keys. Otherwise, hold down Fn like Nathan said.

Where do you see the black border; in the source window or the program monitor? Are all your videos shot with the same settings? A screenshot of your project would be helpful.

If you’re just trying to smooth the movement, right click your start and end keyframes individually, go to Temporal Interpolation, and select Ease Out and Ease In respectively.

How did you make the 3D text? Ray-traced? Element 3D? If your text is 3D (which it pretty clearly is) and your white background is a solid layer in 3D space, then, in theory, you should be able to achieve what you are aiming for.

If you used a plug-in like element 3D, you could always make the background in Element and animate the push through with the plugin’s animation controls.

I like to use GeoLayers. It has some great features and you have a nice selection of different maps to choose from. They do ask you put a small map attribution in the corner for most, but I think finding a good (and legal) map without a watermark or attribution can get pretty expensive.

Double click your video file in the Project window so it opens in a new Footage window. Scrub to where you want to start and set an In Point (alt+left bracket, or option+left bracket on a mac). Now drag the footage layer from the Project window to your composition and it will start where your In Point was set.

You can also use CC Simple Wire Removal. Just put the two wire points really close together over your pixel.
