Hiding a dead pixel (with AE)?
Hello,
a film I’m color grading has footage where the camera had a dead pixel. The pixel shows as pure white. The editor has moved clips vertically, so that the dead pixel is seldom in the same place.
I tried overlaying a 50% gray pixel on top of the dead one to make it less appartent. Works somewhat, however I’m wondering whether I should use a track matte of some sort (or something else) in AE to try and get rid of the dead pixel altogether.
How would you use AE (or some other tool) to hide a dead pixel from footage? Thanks.

I’d duplicate the layer, shift it by one pixel in any direction and draw a mask over the dead pixel.

I usually put a copy of the footage underneath the original and offset it by several pixels, then blur it slightly. It is relatively easy to ‘cut a hole’ in the original at the location of the dead pixel because it is pure white.
Since the original moves around, you’ll need to somehow track the offending pixel.

You can also use CC Simple Wire Removal. Just put the two wire points really close together over your pixel.
