Auto-trace is definitely the way to go. In order to use custom brushes in AE, you need a third-party plugin or script.

Make 1080p proxies to stabilize, then relink or copy that data to the 6K files. As long as you have some high contrast points in your shot, it should work. The problem with separating into chunks is you may get little jumps between clips if they aren’t all stabilized exactly the same.

Nice job. You can try varying the font sizes to highlight certain words and maybe experiment with blend modes on the opacity too.

You’re final file will be roughly 16 GB as is. If you have Adobe Encore from CS6, you can export a high quality master file (or use Dynamic Link), and then Encore will transcode it to a DVD format for you. You can also use a Media Encoder DVD preset. Either way, Encore will compress it to fit the 4.5 GB DVD limit. You can create a DVD .img or .iso file that you can then send to someone who does have a DVD burner, or just purchase a cheap USB DVD drive from Amazon and burn it yourself.

Take Dave’s advice and do some basic training on AE. Once you understand the basics, you can start problem-solving things like this pretty easily.

You’re on the right track with the mask on a solid layer. You can double click the mask in your comp window to select all points and move it around your composition. Keyframe the path if you need to animate the position.

  • You can duplicate the model into different groups in one instance of Element 3D and position each group individually. You might be limited to the number of groups, but a change to the texture should affect all of them in that particular layer. You could probably quickly duplicate the sphere and drop into each group also. It doesn’t completely solve your problem, but hopefully makes things a little easier…

You need to use a preset that uses a codec that can handle all the audio channels. ProRes or DNxHD, for example. If it’s H.264 or something similar, it will cause issues.

Enabling Ambient Occlusion and playing with those settings is probably a good place to start. The environment and lighting settings will also affect the look. Finally, check out this tutorial which goes over some pretty good tips for working with textures in Element 3D (start around the 10 minute mark I think…)

  • You could duplicate your footage, use the Extract effect to isolate your hotspot, and then use that layer as a track matte to to target your over-exposed footage. Like others have said though, if it’s too over-exposed there is little you can do.
