I use the Kensington 7in1 with Transcend and Sandisk Ultra II SDHC cards. No problems with sustained use over the last year. I even accidentally over-cranked with no problems. And with the EX3 firmware upgrade, I can now use the Panasonic SDHC card.

The upgrade USB port is covered on the back behind the shoulder pad. Download the upgrade and instructions here:

    https://support.sonybiz.ca/esupport/eSupportHome.asp

then follow the instructions carefully. I found that during the install, it’s easier to remove the shoulder pad completely, use the Windows installer and make sure there are no power interruptions. You will power off/on the camera and the red record light will come on during the install. I was hesitant at first but it worked.

Post upgrade, the cam recognized the write protect tab and I can now use more brands of SDHC.

Just did the V 1.10 upgrade on my EX3 myself and all went well. What a relief! The Mac PMW-EX3_1.10 software doesn’t seem to work om Mac OS X 10.4 (although the documentation sez Tiger) but the Win version works on XP. And during the upgrade, the REC light on the cam goes on a few times so be prepared.

Actually, I was trying to make a facetious comment (in ten words or less) which was much better said here:

Alas, I failed on both counts.

I long for the old days of on-line, A-B roll editing in $600.00/hr tape suites with the latest ADO and Super Hi-Band! 🙂

I am running OS X 10.4 PPC and looked into upgrading to 10.5. It’s very hard to source and the prices are outrageous!. I currently use a Dell laptop with an Express card slot running Windows XP. Clip Browser and ShotPut work great. I can download to a connected Firewire drive and then access the BPAV with XDCAM Transfer into Final Cut. Windows computers are less xpensive and I don’t have to worry about damaging a costly Macbook Pro out in the cruel, cruel field!

I never use the thumb wheel. It’s not responsive enough and my thumbs are too big. I always use the joy stick on top. Not as easy to access but much easier to use.

Yes, but a REAL camera has pro connectors. Can you spell BNC? Are you listening RED? OK, I admit I own an EX3 but the component out is still a flimsy compromise.

Isn’t he trying to get rid of “Colors” in the blacks?
