I recently shot a large outdoor display (LED waterfall) in Niagara Falls with 1000’s of blue LED’s. When I switched to a different Picture Profile, all the LED’s turned purple/magenta in the VF and recorded that way. The matrix settings in the Picture Profile was likely the cause, so, that’s what you should check.

“auto iris as a reference and then opening up from 1/2 to a full stop” = manual iris!

You should experiment with the Picture Profiles. Use a waveform monitor and a DSC chart. I find that Cinegamma 1 requires 1 extra stop or more over the auto iris (Cinegamma 3 + 1/2 stop) but other settings also affect proper exposure. I used to use just the zebra in the field but find the histogram is also valuable.

Maybe a obvious question, but did you select AJA Kona in the System Preferences/Sound/Output options pane?
