I’m in the process of switching from Final Cut Pro to Premiere Pro for Windows. The Mercury engine rocks! No more renders and the keys are cleaner too! And an 8 core Windows computer is much cheaper than a Mac although Windows 7 bites!

Yes, I do it all the time from my Dell (with Expresscard slot) to my Mac with FCP 6.

Thanks for the warning. Just checked the SDI out months after my DIY firmware upgrade and it worked as advertised, but your Sony story is scary to say the least!

And the Sony BPs are smaller and lighter than ABs or NP1s too! Although powering off prevents accidental recording while transporting to the next setup. It has happened!

No, that ONLY works if you have an EX1. The EX3 buttons are on the left (operator) side!

I think he means one SET of profiles which = 6 individual profiles. This is what is saved/recalled.

February 3, 2011 at 1:03 am in reply to: Sony EX3 video outputs and external monitor

There are 2 ways to monitor the EX3 output with the monitor you are using: composite or component.

    1) composite – use a 75 ohm BNC to BNC cable between the MONITOR OUT connector on the EX3 and the VIDEO IN connector on the monitor. This will give you an SD down-converted video signal. You can change between letterbox or crop in the VIDEO SET menu on the EX3.

    2) component – connect the component video cable which comes with the EX3 between the COMPONENT OUT Mini D connector on the EX3 to the YPbPr BNC connectors on the monitor. You will require 3 female phono (RCA) to male BNC adapters. This will give a HD signal or MUCH higher quality although on that size of monitor it won’t be as noticeable. Again, output options are available in the VIDEO SET menu.

According to the monitor documentation, the BNC inputs on the monitor are self terminating.

Updated my EX3 without problems. The PC upgrade works better than the Mac version. At a recent seminar, the Sony Canada rep endorsed user upgrades. He also mentioned that there is a way to upgrade using a SxS card without going the maintenance USB port route. I think the main problem is using the wrong USB port.

Transcend Red Label Class 6 16 GB, purchased 8 months ago. Reliable pre and post the firmware upgrade but I’ve heard that others have had problems.
