NTSC title safe crop amounts:
720×480 = left/right 72 pixels, top/bottom 24 pixels
720×486 = left/right 72 pixels, top/bottom 26 pixels -

How long is the sequence?
What is the content of the sequence? (fast moving or interview or mixed etc)
What format are you planning to deliver it in? (Quicktime, Windows media etc)
What connection speed(s) would you like to cater for? (56k, slow broadband and/or fast broadband)It’s a London thing.

CRT based TVs are interlaced (some have a progressive/deinterlacing option)
Plasma & LCDs are progressive.As such if you encode to progressive it will look great on the Plasma/LCDs but possibly jerky on the CRTs, if you encode to interlaced there’ll be a slight drop in quality on both types of TV.
If it were down to me, I’d encode to progressive as most people I know use a Plasma and pretty well all modern DVD players have progressive support (I’m in the UK so you mileage may vary)

You can’t change the frame rate without re-compressing and loosing quality.

What Quicktime CODEC are you using?
What settings (datarate and keyframes) are you using? -
I can’t believe people are still requesting Real but this is what you need but only if you are using a PPC based Mac – The Realvideo functionality is not compatible with Intel.

If you have access to a PC (or bootcamp, VirtualPC etc) then you’ll be able to do it on that. There’s no way I know of to do this on a Mac as Microsoft don’t supply the DV AVI CODEC for Mac.
I have no idea why Microsoft have to wrap up a DV file as AVI. Thank goodness they left MPEG alone!
